Chief Accountant (Accounting Operations) at Proten

Summary

• The Chief Accountant will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, general ledger integrity, reconciliations, fixed assets, and transaction controls across the group.
• The role will ensure accurate and timely postings, strong documentation, and reliable financial records while supporting the Financial Controller during month-end close and audits.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting entries for sales, expenses, accruals, prepayments, and journals, ensuring proper approvals and supporting documentation.
• Maintain general ledger integrity, including accurate coding, timely postings, and resolution of suspense items.
• Execute and supervise ke bank, clearing account, payment gateway, and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring timely resolution of reconciling items.
• Maintain accurate balance sheet schedules, working papers, and audit trails.
• Manage the fixed asset register, including additions, disposals, transfers, and depreciation.
• Support month-end close by preparing trial balance schedules, journal packs, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
• Ensure proper revenue and expense cut-offs in coordination with AR, AP, and business units.
• Strengthen accounting processes, documentation, controls, and posting discipline.
• Work with Tech/Data to improve automation, reduce manual errors, and resolve system-related accounting issues.
• Support Internal Control reviews and ensure timely resolution of accounting-related findings.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent strongly preferred; part-qualified candidates may be considered based on experience.
• 10+ years’ experience in accounting operations, including journals, reconciliations, and general ledger management.
• Experience in retail, e-commerce, distribution, or other high-volume environmentsis an advantage.
• Experience with ERP/accounting systems, spreadsheets, payment gateways, and POS reconciliations.
• Strong knowledge ofaccruals, prepayments, cut-offs, fixed assets, and financial controls.
• Strong attention to detail, organisation, ownership, and ability to work under pressure.
• High level of confidentiality, documentation discipline, and audit readiness.

Working Conditions:

• Full-time hybrid role with occasional travel.
• Peak workload occurs duringmonth-end close and audit periods.
