CAD Designer / Drafter III - Projects (Tech) at ABNL Limited

Main Functions

• Develop and maintain 2D CAD drawings (e.g. PFD’s, P&ID’s, One-Lines, General Layouts for all disciplines, Plans, Sections and Details, etc.) using software such as AutoCAD (required), Microstation and/or SmartSketch.
• In addition to technical ability, they should demonstrate sound communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Develop computer-generated drawings, isometrics, details, plans, schedules, and data sheets.
• Prepare dimensional drawings for layouts and non-dimensional drawings such as one lines, etc.
• Revises drawings based on instructions from engineers, etc.
• Communicate effectively and work with other members of the design team of each individual project assignment. Interface management across disciplines.
• Document control support, database administration, and progress reporting.
• Coordination and communication of various issues among the company and contractor's engineering team that affect the discipline engineering drawings.
• Keep Supervisor informed of discipline engineering progress, deviations, and execution concerns
• Support internal engineering general interest or Global Practice initiatives as requested by Management
• Collaborates with design originators to resolve discrepancies between original drawings and final CAD designs.
• May supervise and guide lower-level CAD drafters.

Roles (Basic Function and Scope)

• The CAD Designer / Administrator shall be the focal point for all 2D / 3D CAD related activities within COMPANY. Provides extensive QA/QC controls to protect the integrity of the 3D CAD Reference Databases.
• Coordinate the procurement of 3D CAD and related software and their licensing. Also responsible for the successful installation, setup and, maintenance of 3D CAD projects / Databases from contractors or vendors and control the project user access.
• Coordinate the successful implementation and direct the multidiscipline use of 3D CAD systems to ensure that a standardized execution philosophy is followed in all projects.
• Coordinates / provides high quality design / drafting support to Projects and other COMPANY departments as directed by the DS / DEM. Implements Drawing Management Work Processes and Procedures and assists the Supervisor in meeting design engineering drawings / drafting deliverables.
• Coordinate 3D CAD design model reviews with Projects Engineering personnel. Provide technical assistance to all disciplines for the development of catalogue & specs. Update / maintain COMPANY Corporate Catalogue/Specs should there be any change in engineering specifications.
• Perform quality audits for all COMPANY 3D CAD projects. Ensure that the use of 3D CAD Systems conform to the project requirements. Coordinate resolution of all 3D CAD issues with the engineering contractor & fabrication contractor.
• Continually assesses refinements/changes and recommends updates for the maintenance of specifications and standards used in managing engineering drawing deliverables including the GPs, Design Management Manual (DMM), and the Design Execution References (DER). Responsible for coordinating reviews, endorsement and final approval for changes to these specifications and guidelines using eMOC procedures.
• Ensures that all relevant aspects of the quality assurance and control (QA/QC) programs and procedures are strictly followed in the performance of all work. Ensures the integration of the requirements of the Operations Integrity Management System (OIMS) in all work, tasks or deliverables.
• Perform quality audits for Laser Scan. Ensure that the quality of the scan data conforms to the project requirements, and high-resolution scan display submitted by scanning contractor.
• Performs redline modification on existing drawing and new design for ongoing/new projects using AutoCAD software

Responsibilities (Duties Performed)

• Functionally reports to Design Supervisor (DS) and performs activities under the direction of the DS.
• Provide technical support to, and trouble shoot all 3D CAD user applications. Maintain a current knowledge of the latest 3D CAD technology available within industry.
• Coordinate with 3D CAD vendor for technical support and software updates.
• Evaluate and recommend 3D related CADD software and hardware. Develop and implement ideas/suggestions/software customizations which will enhance the work process.
• Develop and maintain 3D CAD standards and procedures.
• Identify and organize 3D CAD training for engineering personnel.
• Coordinate the multi-discipline production of all engineering design drawings and documents that are extracted from a 3D model or produced externally from the model in support of the model and / or the project. This is to ensure the conformity to the project requirements regarding the design intent, drawing format, procurement interface, construction requirements, schedule and budget etc.
• Coordinate Cataloguing work with 3D CAD vendor for the following as a minimum; i) naming conventions used for catalogues, ii) Material item codes system to be built into the specs, and iii) Extent of cataloguing.
• Interfaces with other members of the DE group to provide a multi-disciplined approach to project design.
• Provides technical support for the design consultant contracting process, especially development of the Job Specification for 3D CAD drawings, review of Request for Service, Engineering Service Proposals, technical / commercial evaluation and award.
• Reviews 3D CAD design drawings specifications for equipment purchases and participates in kickoff meetings.
• Provides orientation assistance and mentoring for new DE staff including newly hired engineers and ExxonMobil internal transfers.
• Assists with development, improvement and stewardship of DE group processes and procedures.
• Provides technical support for the scanning consultant contracting process, especially development of the Job Specification for the scanning scope, Request for Service, Engineering Service Proposals, technical / commercial evaluation and award.
• Ability to perform brown field varication and measurement with the use of scan data for required project team.
• Excellent use of AutoCAD software of drawing modification and new design.

Work Contacts:

• Frequent contact with DA's, Engineering Lead, DS, DEM, and PT's is expected.
• Regular contact with other Projects groups, asset teams and other Departments within COMPANY and with consultants/contractors is also expected.
• Regular status / progress updates to Engineering Lead, DA's, DS, DEM, and PE's are required.

Supervisory Responsibility:

• In the role of CAD Designer/ Administrator, coordinates discipline 2D/ 3D engineering drawing support for the design team with DS / DEM supervisory support.

Physical Requirements:

• Work is generally sedentary, with some standing, stooping and lifting of records and boxes

Work Environment:

• Air-conditioned home office environment coupled with frequent contractor office visits and regular field visits. Upstream Nigeria operates a complex set of facilities onshore and offshore which must be properly documented using state-of-the-art electronic documentation and retrieval systems.

Skills and Qualifications

• Previous experience in a closely related position
• Experience in CAD design
• Associates Degree in Drafting or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school
• General knowledge of 2D CAD software AutoCAD/Microstation/SmartSketch
• Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs
• Read, write, and speak fluent English, especially as it applies to technical and business communication

Minimum Requirements:

• Expert working knowledge of AutoCAD and 3D CAD tool e.g Aveva PDMS, E3D.
• Expert working knowledge of all design and drafting components involving process systems in the Oil and Gas Petroleum industry using AutoCAD and 3D CAD application software
• Proven skills in providing quality control checks on multi-discipline engineering drawings using AutoCAD and 3D CAD. Ability to train non-CAD users in using the Design Review model as a useful tool.
• Must possess good working knowledge and understanding of engineering drawings.
