Backend Developer (Maasai) at 54 Collective

• We are seeking a Back-End Engineer for our Technology team. You will play a critical role in shaping the technological direction and key components of our company from the ground up. You will work closely with the founders to build, scale, and optimize our product/platform, while fostering a collaborative and creative work environment.
• You’ll also work directly with our advisors and customers to hear their challenges first- hand and show how the solutions we’re building can help them. This is a unique opportunity to leave your mark from the very beginning of a new product and help shape the future of startups in Africa.

• RESTful Services/APIs

Job Objectives & Timelines

2 months...

• Build MVP based on defined product roadmap and test usage and adoption rate based on pre-set metrics

After 6 months...

• Deliver expanded platform functionality, work directly with our customers to help them get onboarded and launched. You’ll lay out new roadmaps and decisions based on learnings and retrospectives and implement new features and use cases

After 12 months...

• As we continue to deliver new functionality to the market, you’ll design, develop and launch the technology that powers it

What We Are Looking For

• Early stage experience translating the founders' vision into a functional technological solution
• Extensive experience designing and developing multiple large-scale Web application backend systems
• Has experience working with a small/medium team preferably at a startup or large organization
• Experience developing RESTful APIs and services for internal and external consumption
• Demonstrates deep backend expertise plus working knowledge of front-end
• Highly proficient working with deployment tools like Docker, Terraform, and Kubernetes
• Prioritizes delivery speed and “done” over “perfect”
• Bonus points for experience with natural language processing technologies, data science, or AI/ML
