Optimise the availability and reliability of Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) through high-quality mechanical repairs, preventive maintenance, and rapid breakdown response within the limestone quarry. This role supports the Mobile Plant Engineer in ensuring the mobile fleet—including haul trucks, excavators, loaders, and dozers—operates at peak efficiency to meet production targets. The position provides technical expertise in diesel engines, hydraulics, and transmission systems to minimize downtime and ensure equipment longevity.
What You'll Be Doing
Execute Maintenance &Repairs: Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective repairs on a variety of HME used in quarry operations.
Diagnostic Troubleshooting: Utilize diagnostic tools and manual inspection techniques to identify faults in diesel engines, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and power trains
Component Overhaul: Carry out stripping, repairing, and reassembling of major components including pumps, cylinders, and braking systems.
Technical Standards: Adhere to OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications and internal asset reliability frameworks for all mechanical interventions.
Continuous Improvement: Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring equipment failures to improve fleet reliability and reduce "mean time between failures" (MTBF).
Work Management: Document all maintenance activities, parts used, and labor hours accurately in the work management system or logbooks.
Defect Elimination: Proactively identify and report emerging defects during routine inspections to prevent catastrophic failures.
Safety Promotion: Visibly promote a positive safety culture, ensuring all "Lock-out Tag- out" (LOTO) procedures are followed and that work areas remain hazard-free.
Mentorship: Provide on-the-job coaching to junior technicians and apprentices to build operational competence within the mobile maintenance team.
What We Are Looking For
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in HME maintenance within a mining, quarry, or heavy construction industry.
Deep understanding of Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) specific to mining/quarrying environments.
Expertise in high-pressure hydraulic systems and heavy-duty diesel engine electronics.
Conversant with technical standards for lubricants, filters, and specialized HME spare parts.
