    Associate (Technology, Media, & Telecommunications)

    JOB SUMMARY:

    • This role will play a vital part in supporting the TMT practice by providing legal research, drafting documents, and assisting with client engagements. Your knowledge of TMT industry regulations and your ability to deliver accurate and efficient legal services will contribute to the success of our clients and the growth of our practice

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Legal Advice: Assist senior lawyers in providing legal opinion and guidance to clients on a wide range of legal issues related to TMT and data protection matters.
    • Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough legal research and analysis on various TMT and data protection industry topics, including intellectual property rights, data privacy, cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, licensing, and contracts. Prepare legal memos, summaries, and reports to support client engagements and inform team members.
    • Business Development: Collaborate with the team to contribute to business development and marketing efforts, including attending industry events and assisting in the preparation of proposals. Collaborate with the team in the development of TMT and data protection thought leadership and other business development newsletters, publications and flash notes, et cetera.
    • Document Drafting and Review: Assist in drafting and reviewing legal documents, policies and contracts within the TMT sector. These include but not limited to the following: cloud services agreements, software licensing agreements, technology transfer agreements, content distribution agreements, data protection agreements, service level agreement, managed services agreement, sales and installation agreements, data privacy policies and strategies, value added services agreement, et cetera. Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations while protecting client interests.
    • Client Management: Participate in client meetings and calls, taking detailed notes and following up on action items when necessary. Work closely with clients to understand their legal needs and maintain good client relationships. Support the delivery of timely legal advice and solutions tailored to client objectives.
    • Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry practices to provide accurate and timely advice to clients regarding compliance requirements. Assist in developing compliance programs and policies to mitigate legal and regulatory risks.
    • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with team members within the TMT practice and across the firm to share knowledge, exchange best practices, and contribute to the development of legal strategies and solutions.
    • Transactions Support: Support in the conduct of due-diligence, negotiation and structuring of commercial agreements, such as M&A and financing transactions, value added services transactions, and other business relationships within the TMT sector. Assist in managing and coordinating legal projects related to telecommunications, media, entertainment, technology, data protection. Work closely with team members to ensure the successful completion of projects within specified timelines.
    • Professional Development: Stay updated with relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends within the TMT sector. Continuously enhance legal knowledge and skills through training, attending industry seminars, and engaging in professional development opportunities.
    • Fulfilling Other Responsibilities as Delegated or Assigned: Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed to meet the evolving needs of the organization.

    EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION:

    • Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB or JD) from an accredited institution and active bar membership.
    • Advanced degree or relevant certifications are a plus.

    SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

    • Minimum of 2 years post-call legal experience.
    • Sound understanding of technology, media, entertainment, advertising, data protection, cyber security and telecommunications laws, regulations, and industry practices.
    • Strong legal research and analytical skills, with the ability to apply legal principles to complex situations.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey legal concepts effectively to clients and colleagues.
    • Detail-oriented and able to provide accurate, precise, and strategic legal advice.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team and maintain good client relationships.
    • Basic organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
    • Proficient in using legal research databases and other relevant tools, such as Ms word, excel and outlook et cetera.
    • Demonstrated willingness to stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and advancements in the TMT space.
    • Business development experience and familiarity with the TMT industry is a plus.
    • Basic time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
    • Commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.
