    Job Summary

    • An Assistant Chief Engineer is responsible for all maintenance issues within the hotel to deliver an excellent Guest and Member experience while performing daily checks, repairing equipment, and coordinating renovation projects.

    Responsibilities
    What will I be doing?

    • As an Assistant Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for all maintenance issues within the hotel, daily, maintenance checks, and repairing mechanical equipment to deliver an excellent Guest and Member experience.
    • An Assistant Chief Engineer will also be required to coordinate renovation projects and develop emergency programs.
    • Specifically, you will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:
    • Lead the Engineering Team in the day-to-day engineering and maintenance operations of the hotel, including service standards, equipment schedules, and work schedules.
    • Communicate with Housekeeping to coordinate and prioritize maintenance activities for Guest rooms and public areas.
    • To be responsible for the safety and security of guests and employees of the Hotel, especially in relation to Fire & Life Safety, Evacuation and Security issues.
    • Develop systems and procedures to ensure the health and safety of Guests and Team Members, as well as the proper conditions for plants, machinery, and property
    • Communicate with Government agencies to ensure full compliance with statutory regulations
    • Prepare Capital and Repairs and Maintenance budgets for Engineering
    • Develop and implement preventive maintenance plan.
    • Supervise, develop and maintain an ongoing maintenance operation for hotel, including refrigeration, heating, plumbing, water treatment, hotel rooms, air/heating units, ice machines, swimming pools, lighting, kitchen equipment, emergency generators, water softeners, switch rooms, roof exhausts, electrical substations, chillers and boilers etc.
    • Conduct lift emergency release procedures as required
    • Maintenance of all hotel fixtures and fittings to ensure they are in a safe condition and take action when any unsafe situations arise.
    • Develop, implement, and direct all emergency programs.
    • Develop, implement and manage energy conservation programs for the property to minimize expenses
    • Coordinate renovation bidding, define the cost and scope of the project and oversee the general contractor and subcontractors to ensure quality work is performed cost-effectively.
    • Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.
    • Identify and introduce environmentally-friendly systems and equipment.
    • Monitor Key Performance Indicators for the Engineering Department and take corrective action, as required, to improve equipment inventory, quality audit, productivity, and other objectives.
    • Manage all Team Member related activities, including performance management, training, career planning, disciplinary matters, and team motivation.
    • Maintain the physical appearance and operational efficiency of the hotel including physical, mechanical, electrical, plumbing etc.
    • Ensure efficient working of plumbing, electrical, water, LPG and steam systems as well as maintain functional HVAC and BMS systems.
    • Ensure the correct implementation of Hilton Fire Life & Safety (FLS) testing procedures.
    • Ensure the correct operation & maintenance of the hotel FLS systems.
    • Ensure the correct implementation of all health and safety, energy control and management directives, and keep up-to-date records of all test certificates/licenses.
    • Maintain contacts with local authorities such as the fire department, electricity supply company, health inspectors, etc., to ensure that all requirements are being complied with and that assistance or advice will be readily available whenever required.
    • Ensure operational equipment is being maintained effectively.
    • Ensure the correct implementation of an effective “trouble reporting” system.
    • Ensure that all records of maintenance and testing are being kept.
    • Coordinate and supervise the work of service contractors to ensure that the terms of all such contracts for major plants and systems are fully implemented.
    • Identify and recommend improvements where required.
    • In conjunction with Human Resources, interview and make recommendations on suitable technical personnel for employment.
    • Identify, coach and develop suitable personnel for possible future roles within the department.
    • Execute organizational directives and encourage achievement of goals through motivation, communication and leadership.
    • Assist in the negotiation for consumables and service contracts, ensuring the best value for money is obtained.
    • Ensure that adequate stock levels and spare part lists are in place.
    • To be aware of area & hotel financial targets, and assist in cost reduction methods where necessary.
    • Production/updating of hotels 5-year capital and long-term plans.
    • Complete and produce regular reports and statistics as required by hotel and area management.
    • Direct and implement controls and systems to ensure efficient and effective management of all utility and energy-related activities together with company environmental and suitability programs.

    Requirements / Qualifications
    What are we looking for?

    • An Assistant Chief Engineer serving Hilton brands is always working on behalf of our Guests and working with other Team Members.

    To successfully fill this role, you should maintain the attitude, behaviours, skills, and values that follow:

    • Engineering Degree or equivalent education is required. Electrical or Electromechanical is preferred.
    • Advanced knowledge of building management/engineering, experience in facilities management would be an advantage.
    • Five (5) to ten (10) years of related experience in a similar position with managerial capacity is required. Previous Hotel experience would be a plus.
    • Great organizational and problem-solving skills with emphasis on “people management".
    • Ability to train, motivate, evaluate, mentor and direct Team members.
    • Experience in office procedures, ordering materials, record-keeping systems, applicable building laws, building construction, blueprint reading, etc.
    • Continuously suggest new concepts and improve existing processes that will benefit revenues, costs and guests’ and associates’ satisfaction.
    • Committed to delivering a high level of customer service.
    • Exposure to budgeting and basic accounting.
    • Strong leadership skills.
