JOB SUMMARY
The Area Sales Coordinator will be responsible for driving market growth, executing commercial strategies, and managing day-to-day sales activities within North central (Niger State and its surrounding territories). This role demands a proactive, results-oriented sales professional who can expand our distribution footprint, build lasting relationships with key distributors and retailers, and lead a localized field team to meet aggressive volume and revenue targets.
The ideal candidate must possess an intimate understanding of the market dynamics, cultural nuances, and trade channels within North central and its environs, backed by a proven track record of hitting sales targets in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), manufacturing, or agricultural sectors.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Territory Management & Market Expansion
- Take full ownership of sales performance, volume growth, and market share acceleration within the States and adjoining trade clusters.
- Identify, recruit, and onboard high-performing distributors, wholesalers, and retail partners to widen product accessibility and market penetration.
- Map out efficient journey plans and route-to-market strategies for optimal market coverage and minimal logistics turnaround times.
Sales Activity Execution & Order Management
- Coordinate the daily sales pipeline, ensuring consistent order generation, tracking processing times, and monitoring timely product deliveries to open-market trade partners.
- Monitor distributor inventory levels closely, implementing stock-push strategies to prevent product out-of-stock scenarios.
- Direct local trade marketing initiatives, activations, and merchandising setups to maximize product visibility and brand presence at the point of sale.
Financial Accountability & Credit Control
- Ensure strict adherence to the company\'s credit policy, taking direct responsibility for the prompt collection of payments and minimizing outstanding receivables.
- Reconcile distributor accounts regularly in coordination with the regional finance and accounts desk.
Market Intelligence & Reporting
- Gather and analyze real-time competitive intelligence, including competitor pricing strategies, new product entries, and changing consumer preferences within the territory.
- Compile and submit structured weekly and monthly sales forecasts, route-compliance evaluations, and territory performance reports to the Regional Sales Coordinator.
JOB SPECIFICATION (CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS)
Experience & Territorial Expertise
- Proven Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of verified field sales experience, preferably within the FMCG, manufacturing, packaging, or agricultural commodities sector.
- Geographical Knowledge: Deep, operational familiarity with the commercial landscape, major markets, and trade networks in North central and its environs (Niger, Kogi, Benue, Nasarawa, Abuja e.t.c.). Existing relationships with major distributors in this region will be a massive advantage.
Educational Background & Academic Qualifications
- Minimum Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Business Administration, Marketing and other related field.
- Professional membership or certifications with bodies like the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) or similar sales institutions will be an added advantage.
Key Competencies & Professional Attributes
- Negotiation & Persuasion Skills: Exceptional capability to pitch products, secure high-volume commitments, and manage complex B2B commercial interactions.
- Numerical & Data Skills: Strong ability to calculate trade margins, interpret sales charts, analyze volume variances, and utilize Microsoft Excel for pipeline tracking.
- Relationship Management: High emotional intelligence with the ability to navigate relationships across diverse cultural frameworks and build trust with local traders.
Mobility & General Requirements
- Territorial Mobility: Must be willing and structurally capable of traveling extensively across the entire assigned territory within the states on a regular basis.
- Driver\'s License: Must possess a valid driver’s license and demonstrate clean, safe driving capability.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in English is required; a strong command of widely spoken local languages in the region (such as Hausa or Nupe) is highly essential for effective market interaction.
