    Agronomist Officer

    Location: Northwest, Katsina, Sokoto

    Dration: 9 months with possible extension

    The Agronomist Officer will support the implementation of agricultural and livelihood interventions, focusing on sustainable farming practices, climate-smart agriculture, and capacity building for local farmers. The role involves working closely with communities, farmer groups, and field teams to improve crop production, soil management, and overall food security.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Plan and implement agronomic activities, including farmer training and field demonstrations.
    • Support the development and distribution of improved seed varieties and farming inputs.
    • Monitor and evaluate agricultural practices at the field level.
    • Promote climate-smart agriculture and integrated pest management.
    • Build the capacity of local farmers on good agronomic practices (GAP).
    • Collaborate with other technical officers (e.g., Livelihoods, M&E) for integrated programming.
    • Collect data and contribute to reports on agricultural progress and outcomes.
    • Provide technical support for the creation of community demonstration plots.
    • Liaise with government agencies, research institutes, and agricultural extension workers.

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agriculture, or related field.
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in agricultural extension, agronomic fieldwork, or food security programs.
    • Proven knowledge of local agricultural systems and practices.
    • Experience working with rural communities and farmer groups.
    • Strong communication, training, and report-writing skills.
    • Ability to speak local languages (e.g., Hausa) is an advantage.
    • Good computer skills (MS Word, Excel, etc.).
    • Willingness to travel frequently to rural communities.
