    General Manager- Operations

    Responsibilities:

    Summary

    The Job Holder will be responsible for designing, development, operation and continuous improvement of the systems and process that create and deliver the products and services for the farm. He will plan, direct and coordinate the farm’s operations, production and value adding activities, ensuring output is commensurate with inputs, agreed targets and established standards

    • Design, implement, enforce and continually improve the company’s documented systems, policies, standards and policies which guide production activities
    • Translate the company’s annual business plan objectives and targets into integrated company-wide resource requirement plan for and across all production facilities. Such plans may include but not be limited to:
    • Stocking/Flock Management Plan
    • Flock Vaccination Plan
    • Pen and Farm Equipment Maintenance Plan
    • Staffing Plan
    • Feed Production Plan
    • Training Plan (for operations staff)
    • Optimize utilization of the company’s production facilities, ensuring the production pipeline is constantly aligned and effectively managed to meet identified customer needs and requirements and business plan targets
    • Design, implement and ensure continuous monitoring of programs and measures to:
    • Minimize bird mortality due to handling and illnesses
    • Improve bio-security awareness
    • Minimize product damage and losses due to poor handling
    • Reduce ongoing expenditure on farm asset maintenance and repairs
    • Operational information and records management
    • It is in sync with agreed strategy and business plan objectives and targets
    • The company’s value creation activities are constantly aligned with market opportunities as and when they emerge
    • The company identifies, targets and secures business from new and existing customer groups through on-going product improvement and the design and development of new products
    • Performance is constantly monitored against clearly established, defined and communicated operational performance indicators
    • Oversee all aspects of the company’s production operation on a day-to-day basis, ensuring:

    Manage and lead the following processes on behalf of the company:

    • Selection of breeds to rear on the farm
    • Health, Safety, Environmental and Community Relations
    • Communicating and enforcing compliance with government regulations governing poultry farming activities
    • Production and dissemination of farm operations reports
    • Definition and continuous improvement of the company’s rearing and production processes
    • Farming equipment selection and farm project development
    • Build and strengthen the capacity of the company’s operations team by:
    • Continually assessing the capability of the team to deliver on agreed outcomes
    • Providing leadership that inspires others to succeed and develop, and proactively share experience, knowledge and ideas
    • Coaching and counseling team members as necessary

    Key Performance Indicators:

    • Average Farm Yield/production
    • Mortality as a % of flock size
    • Maintenance & Repair costs as a % of total operating costs
    • Actual vs. Budget/biz plan targets
    • Financial Indicators (all relative to agreed indices/ratios and or budgets)
    • Monthly, Quarterly and Annual production
    • Revenue Contribution
    • Farm Gross Profit Margin, EBITDA, PBT, PAT
    • OPEX (Actual vs. Budget

    Qualification and Experience:

    Education and Qualification

    • Minimum of university degree in Agriculture and or Veterinary Medicine (a Master’s degree in Business Administration will be advantageous)
    • Minimum of 10 years working experience in the poultry industry
    • Strong domain knowledge of the poultry industry and business
    • Good understanding and knowledge of standards/management theories including but not limited to Business Process Re-engineering & Management, ISO 9001, TQM, Six Sigma,
    • Cost Management Skills
    • Fundamentals of Accounting/Fixed Asset Management
    • Business Planning and Modeling Skills
    • Problem Solving & Analysis
    • Performance Management
    • Strong understanding of the laws and regulations governing the poultry industry
