    Shelter Assistant - Social (3 positions)

    In the coming months, the main focus for NRC would be conflict affected populations including IDPs, returnees and the local communities in Borno State. NRC will initially be starting activities in the area of food security, water and sanitation and shelter sectors. NRC is therefore seeking a Shelter Assistant- Social in Maiduguri, Nigeria. The Shelter Assistant- Social reports to the Shelter TL.

    Tasks and Responsibilities

    • Implement and maintain NRC’s shelter procedures and guidelines
    • Ensure adherence to NRC’s policies and procedures
    • Ensure a that the beneficiaries and community are involved in the project implementation
    • Implement and maintain a filing system for all project documents according to procedures
    • To assist in the identification of community Shelter and NFIs needs
    • Ensure that procurement, development and distribution of materials and equipment are timely and according to procedures
    • Participate in the selection of beneficiaries and training for beneficiaries
    • Performs any other duties as requested by the supervisor M
    • Conduct regular meetings with community members to discuss program objectives, and mobilize the community participation and act as a mentor throughout the planning and implementation processes.
    • Guide the formation of beneficiaries selection committee and village committee
    • Train community project implementation committee members on the community based construction of the shelter project.
    • Routinely monitor the projects activities and feedback findings to the community members and other stakeholders
    • Ensure that the communities are continuously involved and kept up‐to‐date with priority project developments
    • Responsible for generating weekly action plan
    • Monitor the progress of the construction of shelter
    • Assist in facilitating workshops, seminars, and trainings for the community.
    • Monitoring and Reporting
    • Timely reporting, on a weekly and monthly basis, (identifying gaps, risks and bottlenecks that can obstruct proper implementation of activities)
    • Ensure documentation of project progress is ongoing
    • Prepare documentation for final handover and closure of project.
    • Mainstreaming
    • Promote the community-based approaches in the implementation of construction/rehabilitation projects and ensure mobilization of the communities for the building materials, construction activities and maintenance of structures.
    • Mainstream safer building messages into the shelter program
    • Mainstream, Environments and other relevant crosscutting issues
    • Ensure that all projects are as per Sphere standards and incorporate other humanitarian standards officer

    Qualifications

    • Experience with INGO or UN agencies for at least 3 years
    • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
    • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
    • Good knowledge of written and verbal English
    • Knowledge of local language

    • Ability to work under pressure, independently and with limited supervision.

    • Ability to work in insecure environments
