    Program Officer/Teacher Training Coordinator (Four Pillars PLUS)

    Job Summary / Responsibilities:

    Under the direction of the Project Manager, the Four Pillars PLUS Teacher Training Coordinator will be responsible for working closely with the project manager identifying a cohort of head teachers and teachers, school officials and administrators, local education officials in relevant ministries in the project schools’ communities and organizing training workshops on participatory methodologies, pedagogy, math and science, gender sensitivity and inclusion to improve the quality of teaching and enrich the learning experience for all students, particularly girls. Through regular classroom observation, evaluation and feedback, the Teacher Training Coordinator will ensure that all trained teachers and school officials are applying lessons learned in the classrooms and across the schools with the objectives of increasing retention and improving academic performance for all students. The Teacher Training Coordinator will assist in the monthly report and work plan preparation; organize and execute teachers’ training workshops; monitor and evaluate trained teachers’ performance; research and provide support to the Project Manager and facilitate the creation of drop down trainings for sustainability of quality education for girls and OVCs in secondary schools.

     

    Essential Job Functions

    • Work closely with the Project Manager to engage      school principals, school community, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders      to assess quality education gaps and needs;
    • Identify a cohort of head teachers, teachers, school      management members and relevant MOE representatives for training;
    • Develop teacher training modules – either cluster or      cascade model;
    • Create a calendar of training and follow up for each      school based on needs assessment;
    • Assist the Mentor Coordinator in the development of      supplemental, life, civic and social skills curriculum;
    • Plan and manage all activities related to the design      and delivery of innovative teacher training techniques and materials      development for active, participatory student-centered learning;
    • Assess trained school staff performance on a regular      and informal basis, identifying areas of need or weakness, and develop and      deliver solutions or responses to these needs;
    • Facilitate the delivery of pedagogical and gender      sensitive teacher training;
    • Develop a calendar of school visits and share      calendar with schools to follow up with teachers as to their use of new      techniques in the classroom;
    • Organize, if desired by school, other supportive      activities for teacher professional development;
    • Facilitate, train, and follow up with School      Management Committees to support girls’ education in order to support the      teachers and school administration;
    • Work      with Project Manager to develop Implementation Plans and      Performance Monitoring/Evaluation Plans for education activities      on a six month basis;
    • Submit monthly reports to Project Manager on progress      of project activities;
    • Assist the Project Manager in the monthly and annual      reporting on teacher training and performance activities;
    • Perform other duties as necessary and appropriate.

    Necessary Skills and Abilities:

    • Fluency      in English and local languages is required;
    • Experience      in working with schools, preferably secondary schools, and local communities      in Nigeria;
    • Ability      to work individually as well as on a team;
    • Ability      to take initiative is essential;
    • Understanding      the ways that CBOs / NGOs operate;
    • Ability      to inspire girls and passion for the development of young people;
    • Excellent      interpersonal, facilitation and presentation skills;

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    No staff supervisory responsibilities are required.

     
     
    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s      degree in Education/Teacher Training/International Development, Gender      Studies, Social Science, Education or equivalent with a strict minimum of 5 years’ work experience in relevant fields Master’s Degree preferred (possession of a relevant second degree will be an advantage);
    • Must be      computer literate (MS Office Package/Internet, etc.)
    • Must be      able to provide three references from previous employment or university;
