    Nutrition Officer, (NO-B)

    How can you make a difference?

    • Despite its importance in preventing and controlling malnutrition, there has not been data on micronutrients status of women and children in Nigeria for almost two decades
    • The National Dietary intake and Micronutrients Survey is a USD 7.9 million initiative to fill in this data gap in the country with aim of informing a better planning and decisions in addressing micronutrients deficiency in Nigeria
    • The survey is led by the Government of Nigeria with support from donors (Bill and Melinda Gate Foundation, UK Department of International Development, Nutrition International and potentially the World Bank)
    • UNICEF has been nominated as the Fund Management Agency for the survey, in addition to the current technical support being offered in collaboration with CDC Atlanta
    • The Temporary Appointment (NOB) position will provide specific support to the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the Dietary intake and Micronutrients Survey.

    Major Responsibilities
    Under the supervision of the Nutrition Specialist P3 TA, the Nutrition Officer will:

    • Support to monitor budget and track expenditure of dietary assessment and micronutrients survey activities.
    • Plan and facilitate technical support on biomarker component of the survey, including timing technical inputs from CDC Atlanta to ensure quality outcome of the survey.
    • Prepare and consolidate various pieces of technical information, minutes of technical meetings and others as may be required.
    • Regularly document key action points and follow up with key stakeholders to ensure implementation of agreed actions.
    • Review funding request from survey's implementing partners and assist in ensuring appropriateness of financial, administrative and programmatic documentation and verify that project expenditures are consistent with work plans.
    • Support in preparing donor reports as it relates to the survey by ensuring implementing partners submit reports in a timely manner and reviewing of reports.
    • Monitor the survey implementation and recommending actions for UNICEF's action.
    • Track supplies (commodities)against planned, utilization and gaps to avoid pipeline break
    • Perform any other duty as may be required for the success of the micronutrients survey.

    Qualifications, Experience and Competencies Required
    Education:

    • University Degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Nutrition, Nutritional Epidemiology Public Health and Nutrition, Food Science and Nutrition or other relevant discipline(s).

    Experience:

    • A minimum of two years of relevant professional work experience
    • Experience in nutrition research; implementing nutrition surveys; micronutrients and dietary assessment
    • Good knowledge and hands on experience in analytical, research methodology and statistical skills is an added advantage.

    Language Requirements:

    • Fluency in English (both written and spoken) and local working language of the duty station are required.
