    Clinical Psychologist

    Position Title: Nigeria Child Protection Programme Officer (only for Nigerian nationals)

    Location: Maiduguri, Borno State with travel across Borno, Adamawa and Yobe

    Reports to: Nigeria Child Protection Programme Manager

    Contract duration: 6 months, full-time position

    Operational/Context Role:

    Street Child is looking for a dedicated Clinic Psychologist for our various Child Protection programme in North East Nigeria, in partnership with national NGOs. Our planned programme will include provision of psychosocial support to children in need, case management for children at risk, family tracing and reunification and livelihoods support for the most vulnerable caregivers.

    The main responsibility of the Clinic Psychologist will be to support the Programme Manager in the implementation of the North-East Nigeria programme. The role will involve overseeing the Child Protection Partners’ staff team in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states, providing the best options for the child’s interest during case management of children at risk.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. General

    • Providing specialize mental health services to vulnerable children
    • Conduct individual and group psychotherapy regarding problems such as depression, stress, abuse, sexual violence and family situations in order to modify behavior and /or to improve personal, social and emotional adjustment of children
    • Develop and implement individual and group treatment plans
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of counselling or treatments, and the accuracy and completeness of diagnoses, then modify plans and diagnoses as necessary.
    • Consults with other professionals, regarding evaluation and treatment
    • Provide psychological assessment, testing and evaluation, referral, and consultation
    • Collaborate and cooperate in a professional manner with co-workers, implementing partners, other departments and other agencies in order to assure effective continuity of care and services.
    • Prepare and maintain mental health notes and narrative reports of mental health activities (in the appropriate charting format) following the policies of records and maintenance of client confidentiality.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    2. Reporting

    • Keep the Child Protection Programme Manager informed on the activities of the project by providing relevant correspondence, reports and meeting minutes as well as making regular updates.
    • Responsible for prompt submission of all reports to the Child Protection Program Manager.
    • Work closely with implementing partners to prepare and submit reports on approved frequency to the Programme Manager.

    3. Networking

    Responsible for co-ordination and liaising between Street Child and local partners/other agencies/local government/local communities/displaced community, as regards to Street Child’s Child Protection programme in conjunction with the Program Manager.

    Represent Street Child at the stakeholders meeting as necessary e.g. Child Protection Working Group Meeting, Gender Based Violence Working Group Meeting.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    Education

    • University degree in Psychology.
    • Master’s degree an advantage

    Experience

    • At least 3 years working in clinical hospital. Experience in child protection in protracted crisis / early recovery a significant advantage
    • Experience in managing people/teams.
    • Experience with start-up of programmes
    • Demonstrated experience and commitment to working with marginalized communities.

    Language

    • Fluency in English and Hausa (written and spoken) and excellent writing skills.
    • Kanuri is an advantage

    Technical Skills

    • Strong analytical, reporting, strategic thinking and planning skills.
    • Strong monitoring and evaluation skills/experience
    • Knowledge of project cycle management.

    Terms and Conditions:

    Contract is for six (6) months, and may be extended based on proved experience, results and availability of funding.
