    Knowledge Management Coordinator - REACH/CDGP

    Child Safeguarding

    • Level 3.  The responsibilities of this post may require the post holder to have regular contact with children and young people.  As part of these responsibilities the post holder will support the establishment of Child Safeguarding systems for the programme, promoting a culture of keeping children safe, and ensuring that potential harm to children (by our own staff and/or as a result of how we do our work) is identified and addressed on an ongoing basis.  The post holder should report and respond to interventions as determined by position related responsibilities identified in the Child Safeguarding Policy.

    Role Purpose

    • The post holder is responsible for developing processes, strategies and content for the dissemination of tools, results and lessons learned to a wide variety of audiences interested in replicating the Child Development Grant Programme (CDGP) and Reaching and Empowering Adolescents to make Informed Choices or their Health (REACH) theory of change under the leadership of the KM Specialist.
    • The post holder will coordinate and lead on Knowledge Management and communications activities across the two programmes using different approaches in order to influence a wide variety of government, donor, media and community stakeholders and share evidence and case studies from the programme implementation.
    • He/She will work closely with the projects technical staff in all implementing states and in Abuja for developing, adapting and scaling up core tools for assessment, documenting innovations, developing and documenting standards and procedures for adopting innovations, ensuring that core frameworks and tools are needs-driven, and developing methods and providing training to all programme staff.
    • As well as the externally facing responsibilities, the role will also have internal accountability for ensuring strong systems are in place to communicate with the different staff and partners involved in implementing the programme and also support other Country Office related programmes.

    Key Areas of Accountability
    Programme Level Knowledge Management:

    • The knowledge management coordinator will contribute to further strengthening of a coherent and integrated knowledge management and knowledge sharing service structure, driven by programme’ needs, where the best of CDGP & REACH’s s collective knowledge, lessons learned and results achieved is made available when and where needed, increasingly in forms openly accessible to clients and the public at large.
    • Knowledge networking technologies (Onenet, Onedrive, Virtual Resource Center) and platforms are increasingly integrated, easy-to-access and use, and optimally designed and deployed to deliver demonstrable business value
    • Programme staff capacity in knowledge networking is leveraged and expanded, staff and networks of partners and clients can access, use and add to this knowledge
    • Knowledge sharing becomes actionable through the utilization of a broad set of tested KM tools, models and approaches that all programme staff are trained to use in their interventions, with a level of usability that increasingly make formal training redundant
    • Programme data and results are translated into searchable lessons learned and added to CDGP & REACH’s collective knowledge, allowing for iteration and continuous improvement of CDGP & REACH’s development interventions.
    • Organize the research, development, pre-testing, and production of culturally relevant evidence based knowledge management products specific to each project need to ensure effective and efficient programme delivery, including facilitating behaviour change in beneficiaries.
    • Ensures the quality, consistency and appropriateness of evidence based knowledge products and communication materials that are developed, produced, and disseminated to beneficiaries, government officials, implementing partners, other partners and the media.
    • Disseminates knowledge management and communication research findings, ensures exchanges and sharing of experience, lessons learned, best practices, and new methods to government officials, programme staff, and other implementing partners

    Programme Communications Strategy Development and Implementation:

    • Formulate key communications messages and targets from lessons learned, assessments, research and evidence gained through CDGP & REACH project implementation and wider analysis.
    • Support the development of project wide communication strategy and creative briefs that will guide the development of media messages and materials
    • Ensure the projects strategies and plans are in line with Country office strategy.
    • Acquire information and understanding of social policy/protection and adapt strategies as necessary.
    • Maintain a strategic overview of issues affecting children relevant to CDGP/RECH, monitoring trends in the external environment and inputting to organisational strategy and planning processes.
    • Keep a watching brief on policy makers and other key players in relation to social protection and nutrition issues and identify opportunities to raise awareness and influence policy change.
    • Contribute to all efforts to raise/nurture CSO coalitions and champions at the federal and state levels.
    • Identify and maximise opportunities to raise the visibility and profile of the programme, both internationally and in-country

    Reporting and Relationship Management (External and Internal):

    • Develop compelling knowledge products for the project based on lessons learned and experiences from the project for print and online
    • Lead in the preparation of timely programme reports (monthly, quarterly and annual) for TTC, PMT, SCI Members and the donor, ensuring utmost quality in collaboration with M&E and other technical staff.
    • Develop case studies for the project and ensure that these meet Save the Children child safeguarding policies
    • Work closely with the project leads to ensure donors visibility and branding guidelines are adhered to where relevant and appropriate to the context
    • Explore opportunities to communicate about the project with a wide variety of state and national level stakeholders, using innovative methods
    • Produce reports, briefing papers and presentations for internal and external audiences, as directed. Ensure strong procedures are set in place to document programme learning.
    • Lead internal communications about the project with SCI Nigeria and Save the Children member and head offices.
    • Review and approve key messages points, press releases, and other media materials produced by the programme, ensuring compliance to agreed protocols

    Collaboration & Representation:

    • Develop strategic relationships with other Country Office programmes, partner agencies engaged in similar work
    • Develop and maintain a network of external contacts with key individuals in the government, NGO sector, civil society and the media.
    • Build the capacity of  project staff in KM and communications.
    • Where required, represent CDGP & REACH at various policy forums and KM opportunities at national and international levels.
    • Liaise closely with staff in the PDQ and Advocacy units in the CO as well as Save the Children UK and Save the Children Canada

    Influencing and External Representation:

    • Develop good knowledge of state and national government structures, parliamentary and political processes and key decision making structures and how to influence them.
    • Provide support to the National Programme Manager and other team members conducting advocacy visits to the states as well as at Federal Level.
    • Undertake a range of communications and KM activities to inform and persuade policy makers, including donors and politicians, of the value of Save the Children’s policy recommendations.
    • Build systems for research, analysis and documentation that underpins evidence based Knowledge Sharing and influencing at state and national levels.
    • Develop KM and communication strategies for key advocacy/communications messages.

    Skills and Experience
    Education:

    • Post graduate qualification in a knowledge management and/or development related area – (Information, Communication, Economics, Public Policy, Development Management, International Relations, Business Administration etc.)

    Experience:

    • 5-7 years of overall relevant professional experience, including in knowledge management.
    • Experience in developing/managing knowledge management systems/programmes
    • Advanced experience with current KM technologies, including Web and Enterprise 2.0.
    • Work experience in Northern Nigeria is highly desirable;
    • A track record of national and international working experience with increasing responsibilities in the development arena and DFIDs
    • Experience in leading/managing knowledge product development and dissemination. Substantial understanding of knowledge management theory, practice and tools
    • Extensive experience in determining appropriate knowledge management processes, products and ICT enabled platforms
    • Exposure and experience in multiple international development programmes preferred
    • Ability to use computer systems and effectively organize information on internal and external websites
    • Excellent communication skills orally and in writing in English
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively handle multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, adaptability and ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
    • Ability to travel extensively in the country, including northern states (Gombe, Jigawa , Zamfara, Kaduna, and Kano ).
    • Good computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, email / internet).
    • Commitment to the values, mission, aims and policies of Save the Children.

    Desirable:

    • Knowledge of the policies, functions, structures and decision-making processes of key national institutions with regard to social protection, gender & social inclusion, child nutrition or international development.
    • Local language skills (Ability to communicate in Hausa and other local languages will be an advantage).
