    Business Lead - Power Generation

    Location: Ikoyi, Lagos
    Job Type: Full Time
    Level: Senior Manager/Supervisor

    Purpose Statement

    • We are seeking for an individual with expertise within power generation sub sector. This individual will provide technical and commercial expertise to the group in the area of generation.
    • Sahara Power Group (SPG) expects the ideal individual to be able to leverage on its generating assets, and ensure these assets perform optimally and render expert technical advisory services.

    Key Deliverables
    The key roles and responsibilities of the Business Lead, Power Generation are:

    • Project Management - handling of power generation projects i.e. taking the lead on special projects as assigned by the MD Sahara Power Group or at the request of the Power Company CEO, thereby freeing the power Company CEO to carry on with day-to-day responsibilities.
    • Representation at relevant associations, an ambassador for the Power Group, speaking at events, representing the Group as assigned on various committees.
    • Health and Safety (HSSE) Lead across all of the operations of the Power Group and in particular at the power plants.
    • The Business Lead, Generation is expected to develop a standard set of HSSE policy documents that are to be applied, a metrics of key performance indices across board and the establishment of an annual competition amongst all power plants to ensure adherence/compliance with the HSSE policies.
    • Work closely with the SPG MD and the Board and play a critical role in developing and implementing the company's financial strategy.
    • Play an advisory role with unit heads, evaluating and assisting them with strategic and technical plans.
    • Standardization champion, to achieve optimality across the Power Group there will be a need to aspire to standard practices across the power plants in terms of operation, maintenance, training & development. The Business Leader, Generation shall take the lead on this, including drafting of standardization guidelines for the operating generation companies.
    • Knowledge transfer facilitation, there is a benefit in knowledge sharing and transfer amongst the power companies, it is envisaged that this will include Secondment between power companies. The Business Lead will be responsible for coordinating this and ensuring its fulfillment.
    • Internship Programme development, the future of the organization will depend on the nurturing of new and prospective recruits. The Business Lead will be responsible for the development and coordination of this Programme across the Power Group.

    Minimum Qualifications / Experience

    • University degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 20 years work experience in a generating plant.
    • At least 5 years’ experience in Plant Operations in a combined cycle plant of minimum 1000MW

    Knowledge/Skills:

    • Solid understanding of investment strategies and financial services
    • Strong understanding of financial risk management and oversight
    • Experience in Venture Capital, banking, government financing and mergers & acquisitions
    • Solid performance track record in such areas as strategic planning, financial reporting, reviewing and implementing contracts and negotiating.
    • As a dynamic leader, demonstrate interpersonal savvy and influence through the ability to work effectively with others and build strong relationships with a variety of stake holders, senior managers and department leaders.
