    Senior Protection Officer

    Work Location: Maiduguri – Roving Ngala, Monguno, Damasak, Banki
    Reporting to: Project Manager

    ROLE PURPOSE:
    INTERSOS is looking for a Senior Protection Officer is in charge of assisting the Protection Coordinator and
    the Project Manager in the daily implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the quality and
    effectiveness of the protection-related field activities.

    KEY JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • In cooperation with Protection Coordinator, train all protection project national staff on protection key concepts and related issues;
    • In cooperation with CCCM Project Manager and with technical guidance of Protection Coordinator, train and coordinate national INTERSOS CCCM team on protection standards;
    • In cooperation with CCCM Project Manager coordinate and collaborate with CCCM team members in implementation of integration activities, and promotion of capacity building;
    • Support the collection of information/data about vulnerability, protection needs and concerns of the targeted population;
    • Develop and submit weekly, monthly, and quarterly protection reports to CCCM Project Manager;
    • Ensure that data are safely stored, in respect of international data protections standards and INTERSOS policies;
    • In close cooperation with Project Manager, contribute at planning and implementation of protection activities in order to achieve the foreseen project results and goals;
    • Responsible for mentoring and coaching of Focal Points for identification and referral of Extremely Vulnerable Individuals and People with Specific Protection Needs for adequate assistance according
    • to INTERSOS pre-defined criteria;
    • Provide direct technical support to Protection Officers and Protection Monitor Team Leaders on the provision of protection mainstreaming and protection monitoring;
    • Conduct regular follow-up monitoring visits to ensure that needs have been met in an appropriate manner and beneficiary have the opportunity to provide feedback on the assistance received;
    • Ensure dissemination of clear and reliable information on service provision and other preselected key topics;
    • Conduct regular field participatory protection assessments, using as much as possible an age, gender and diversity approach, in order to fully understand protection concerns and priorities;
    • Conduct informative sessions, record feedback (comments, suggestions) and report results back to CCCM Project Manager on issues of concern with recommended areas of intervention;
    • Contribute to the establishment/maintenance of a referral pathway, respectful of the confidentiality principle and international SOPs;
    • Establish and maintain collaborative relations with relevant partners and other project stakeholders working in the project areas;
    • Proactively participate in relevant coordination meetings, as requested by the supervisor;
    • Perform any other task assigned by the Project manager and/or Protection Coordinator to support and improve the project/mission.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

    • Bachelors in Social Science from an accredited institution
    • At least 2 years of experience in Protection officer position
    • 3 years of experience in humanitarian context and protection program
    • Background/familiarity with Emergency.
    • Communication and Reporting skills
    • Good command of written and spoken English. Kanuri and Hausa Languages is desirable
    • Strong interpersonal and team building skills and excellence as a team player
    • Must possess the ability to learn with speed and ease.
    • Strong sense of responsibility, methodical and accurate with high organizational skills
    • Honesty and integrity and being able to cope with stressful situations.
    • Strong listening and empathy skills, as well as commitment to supporting women and
    • children survivors/ at risk;
    • Ability and motivation to work well with local authorities, local leaders and local
    • community;
    • Computer literate (Word and Excel);
    • Willing to work extra hours and available at the weekend for emergency cases.
