    Telecommunications Technician (Radio)

    Summary:

    The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, Nigeria is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for Telecommunications Technician (Radio) position in the Diplomatic Technology Office.

    Duties

    Under direct supervision of the telecommunications supervisor, incumbent is responsible for the programming, installation, operation, and maintenance of post radios, base stations, repeaters, comparators, duplexers, telecommunications towers/mast, video splitters, amplifiers, combiners and controllers, video multicast and broadcast equipment, satellite TV decoders and all other radio frequency related equipment at the consulate, offsite locations and residences.

    Incumbent is the Primary customer support for all radio and TV related issues and assists with programming and installation of post PBX systems, residential internet services, LAN (Local Area Network) cables and MPLS circuits. Incumbent serves as an incidental operator of official vehicles and meets all requirements outlined in 14 FAM 433.

    Education Requirements:

    • Two (2) years of full-time college/university studies (at least an associate degree) in the electrical, electronics, or telecommunications field is required. 

    Experience:

    • Minimum of two (2) years of directly progressively responsible experience in telecommunications is required.

    Job Knowledge: 

    • Must have good knowledge of Manufacturers' technical manuals and radio/digital/data equipment.
    • Must have good knowledge of the Nigerian Communication Commissions' Regulations, Guidelines and Policies.
    • Must have thorough knowledge of electronic and radio theories and practices, installation, operations, management, testing and troubleshooting and repair procedures and techniques.
    • Must have experience in cisco, satellite remote antenna pointing and alignment, fiber optic and copper cable installations and distribution and local area networking is required.

    Skills And Abilities:

    • Must have a valid, current Nigeria local driver's license. 
    • Must have excellent numerical skills to carry out measurements of lengths, distances, elevation of azimuth angle, etc.
    • Must be able to work independently to resolve stressful and unforeseen situations.
    • Must be able to utilize and calibrate a wide range of test equipment and use a myriad of hand power tool.
    • Must be able to lift weights (up to 25 kg) and climb heights of up to 120fts with due regard to workplace health and safety standards. Must be able to work in difficult, sometimes dirty and cramped conditions. Must be able to communicate courteously with customers, both direct hire and local staff.
