    Principal Structural Engineer

    JOB PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE

    • Provide technical leadership, governance, and assurance for all structural engineering activities in major oil and gas projects (greenfield and brownfield, offshore and onshore).
    • Ensure safe, cost-efficient, and fitfor-purpose structural designs and modifications that comply with company standards, international codes, and Nigerian regulatory requirements (NUPRC, NCDMB).

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Carry out Offshore Structures, Hull, Risers & Mooring (OHRM) related design works using Shell specified software, and generate all Civil, Structural and relevant deliverables.
    • Structural support sizing, design calculations and modification.
    • Develop reports related to regulatory agencies such as Lloyd’s register.
    • Reassessment of structural integrity of existing facilities using inspection data.
    • Finite element analysis (FEA) using SACS, ANSYS/ABACUS for structural component design.
    • Foundation and Geotechnical design for subsea equipment, flowline and riser systems and bottomfounded structures.
    • Review AutoCAD structural drawings for all designs.
    • Metocean data analysis and metocean design criteria reports.
    • Weight estimates and weight management reports related to naval architecture scope.
    • Global analysis of floating systems consisting of connected or linked multiple floaters.
    • Ensure HSSEQ Compliance: Ensure all structural engineering, construction and installation activities comply with HSSEQ (Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Quality) standards and promote a safety-first culture on-site.
    • Enforcing Shell and IOGP (International Oil and Gas Producers) HSE (Health Safety and
    • Environment) policies and procedures at Company worksites.
    • Participate in multi-disciplinary Detailed Engineering Design for the project.
    • Review and provide input to technical specification documents, analysis reports, drawings and other detailed engineering documents for the Structural scope of the project.

    JOB PROFILE

    • Manage technical queries during design, procurement, fabrication, and installation phases, including
    • any applicable qualification and testing.
    • Perform technical tasks assigned by the project Structural Lead such as structural analyses,
    • calculations, design, verification or study activities.
    • Interface with other Project Specialists and Designers.
    • Co-ordinate and review technical activities.
    • Apply knowledge of applicable industry codes and Shell requirements to ensure safe design and operations, working collaboratively with other disciplines.
    • Collaborate effectively with engineering houses and other Community of Practice (CoP) Engineering disciplines within the Company.
    • Provide engineering input on alternative design, construction and installation techniques proposed by the Contractor.
    • Witness site activities including Site Receipt Inspection, Factory Acceptance Test, and confirm compliance with the approved procedure.
    • Manage the HSSE performance of contractors during installation to ensure HSSE targets are met or exceeded. Act as the HSE champion for Offshore Installation activities, ensuring Company’s team is highly visible and providing proactive HSE leadership to achieve Goal Zero.
    • Reviewing construction and installation procedures and method statements for the project.
    • Reviewing installation analysis for risers, jumpers, spool pieces and topsides equipment to validate installation methods and tools, including heavy offshore lifting plans.
    • Liaising with the Quality Assurance discipline to ensure alignment between QA/QC requirements and technical specifications.
    • Liaise with Company’s Lifting and Hoisting SME (Subject Matter Expert) to review lift plan, rigging register and support safe lifting operations.
    • Responsible for safe, timely and efficient execution and drive progress of work scope based on project schedule.
    • Work with Contractor to ensure quality issues are properly identified, documented, reported and timely dispositioned.
    • Author and deliver daily, weekly, and monthly status, progress, and site reports.
    • Liaise with internal stakeholders i.e., Quality, HSE, project control, engineering disciplines, planning, etc. to ensure adequate support for project execution.
    • Log and track lessons Learned during the detailed design and manufacturing activities within the Package.

    Experience & Qualification Required:

    • Minimum of 15 years work experience with at least 10 years relevant experience directly related to oil and gas offshore structures within an upstream Deepwater or similar environment.
    • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in civil/structural Engineering, or equivalent, with professional registration.
    • Experience in design, construction and installation activities on FPSOs in deepwater environment.
    • COREN Registered Professional Engineer.
    • Thorough knowledge of oil field engineering construction methods including its practice and procedures.
    • Strong understanding of project-specific requirements, design analysis, and technical documentation.
    • Familiar with codes standards regulations and practices applicable to the design and construction of offshore structures/production facilities, including API, AISC, AWS, BS, EU, DNV, LR, etc.
    • Proficient in use of SACS, ANSYS and other FEA analysis software.
    • Proficient in Orcaflex, Abaqus, or Pipelay software.
    • Good understanding and application of relevant Industry standards and codes (DNV, API, ASME, etc.).
    • Knowledge in use of MS Office tools or similar software.
    • Ability to communicate, work, interface, interact and influence effectively within a multi-disciplinary team of professionals located globally.
    • Knowledge of personal and process safety.

    Principal Interface Engineer

    JOB PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE

    • The service will ensure the successful integration of scope with the wider BN project. It is expected that the engineer providing the service will ensure interface and integration management are applied appropriately and that interfaces are properly considered in all aspects of Bonga North Project detailed design, planning, and execution.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Identify, define, map out all interfaces and associated bodies. Set out an interface management plans with clear objectives, interface matrix, timelines and intended outcomes. Implement and monitor such interface management plans with adjustments as needed ensuring objectives are met.
    • The implementation of the BN Interface Management Plan scope, including the timely identification and resolution of interface and integration issues between contractors.
    • Be a proactive HSSE and quality leader and role model to the project staff and contract community.
    • Manage the embedding of HSSE/Quality into systems integration & interface work performance, driving no harm to people or the environment.
    • Coordination and interface management of subsea flowlines, hardware, and riser/umbilical scope interfaces as required.
    • Proactively Identify and resolve interface and integration gaps and escalate as applicable.
    • Maintain and manage the project interphase register and key decision log.
    • Support the project managers in facilitating and implementing the lessons learned in the BN scope.
    • Support the rig sequencing program to ensure it aligns with the BN Project’s installation campaign.
    • Identification and management of technical interface risks and mitigation.
    • Manage the SIMOPS plan for the project while interfacing with wells and asset operation activities.
    • Application of project interface management tools and monitoring processes for development, wells, and facility interfaces.
    • Coordination of regular interface meetings with suppliers and work packages.
    • Responsible for related scope interface diagrams, interface data, EPC responsibility matrices, and project interface query registers for SURF.
    • Champion the use of the interface management software amongst the BN project team and EPC contractors.
    • Participate in audits and reviews of project scope and engage contractors regarding the management of their internal interface management systems.
    • Participate and contribute to EPC phase key detailed design activities and project workshops (e.g.,HAZOP, HAZID, ALARP assessments, etc.).
    • Support the execution of wells, construction, and fabrication activities both offshore and onshore.
    • Provide additional multidisciplinary support (i.e., process, instrumentation, mechanical, technical safety, etc.) as required.
    • Support the project team in the management of change (MoC) and its implementation.
    • Support the Project to Asset (P2A) transfer process.
    • Collaborate with the Interface and Integration Lead/Manager to identify/exploit synergies and manage common processes across the packages.

    Experience & Qualification Required:

    • This is an expatriate position.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Process/Chemical, Electrical, Civil/Structural or related). Master’s an advantage.
    • Engineering degree with 15 years of relevant experience.
    • Member of the Nigeria Society of Engineers and Registered with the Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria, or its equivalent.
    • Demonstrated experience managing technical interfaces and integration, during the design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning phases.
    • Experience in Subsea Hardware Control, Umbilical, Riser and Facilities (SURF) facilities engineering, products and installation.
    • Knowledge in Hazards and Effects Management Process (HEMP).
    • Integrated commissioning and start-up planning and execution experience.
    • Knowledge of offshore work execution processes, e.g., permit to work (PtW), job hazard analysis (JHA), etc.
    • Involvement in the previous Deepwater project to asset transition.
    • Manage Detailed Design, Engineering, Construction activities.
    • Sustain connections and networks with the wider enterprise.
    • Knowledge of Managing Project Complexity and Programme / Portfolio aspects.
    • Good communicator and able to clearly present justifications and logical arguments.
    • General commercial and financial exposure to understand where a technical issue will have an impact on project value.
    • Proven interpersonal and relationship skills in complex environments.
    • A passion for creating and working with sustainable and effective delivery teams across different locations.
    • Experience working at contractor offices and construction sites.
    • Experience working in Deepwater environment and familiarity with local PSC contracting requirements.
