    Nurseries Manager

    Location: Edo
    Employment Type: Full-time

    Duties / Responsibilities

    • Support the achievement of plantation targets within the agreed budget.
    • Deliver the agreed number of plantlets in time and quality for the budgeted planting programme according to best practice international standards, with the lowest possible mortality rate, and the highest possible growth rate.
    • Maintain the pre and main nurseries at the best quality level, through best-in-class fertilization, pest and diseases control, and irrigation.
    • Organize and supervise nurseries workforce, including Batch Managers and Irrigation supervisors, to improve outturn and workers productivity.
    • Respect first in first out management of all plantation stores items.
    • Control the budget allocated for each operation and ensure expenses are within budget.
    • Assist in the training and upskilling of all nurseries workforce to best management practices.
    • Support and assist the Agricultural Director and ESG teams in the implementation of all environmental and health and safety initiatives.

    Requirements

    • Minimum of a Second Class Upper, B. Agric (Hons) Degree in Agronomy / Bio-engineering or equivalent subject.
    • Relevant 5 - 10 years of professional experience in a similar role and environment. Prior experience in oil palm nurseries is essential.
    • Knowledge and experience of agricultural operations, imperatively in the plantation sector, in Africa.

    Roads Manager

    Duties / Responsibilities

    • Support the achievement of company operational targets through its maximum availability of a good quality network of roads and tracks throughout the estates
    • Organize and supervise the teams of Roads development and maintenance, in coordination with the Human Resources
    • Maintain, in cooperation with the Workshop Manager, a fleet of vehicles commensurate to the needs of the task, and issue documented recommendations with regards to additional or different equipment requirements
    • Ensure permanent availability of the required materials (culverts, concrete, laterite, gravels etc) for proper development and maintenance of the roads & tracks network on the Estates
    • Identify laterite and gravel quarries in the vicinity, put in place sourcing agreements in cooperation with the Agric Director, and organize logistics arrangements for regular ad-hoc supply
    • Keep updated planning of all Roads & Tracks development and maintenance activities, including traffic signage, visual warnings to users, and awareness campaign if/when required, in good intelligence with all Heads of Departments
    • Report regularly to the Managing Director, Agric Director, Technical Director and all other Heads of Departments about past, ongoing and planned activities, and flag all existing or potential issues, with proposed solutions.
    • Support and assist Agric Director and ESG teams in the implementation of all environmental and health and safety initiatives
    • Assist with reporting against targets and KPIs to GM/ MD to assess and improve business performance
    • Ensure the most efficient traffic conditions throughout the Estates, whilst maintaining the lowest possible costs.

    Requirements

    • Minimum of a Second Class Upper B. Agric (Hons) Degree in Agronomy, Forestry or Bio-engineering or equivalent subject is a plus, but not essential.
    • 5 - 10 years and above relevant professional experience in a similar role and environment.
    • Good knowledge and experience about heavy-duty equipment (Bull, grader, compactor, tipper truck, excavator)
    • Knowledge and experience of agricultural operations, imperatively in the plantation sector, in Africa.
    • Management / supervisory skills and experience in managing technical teams are advantages.

    Irrigation Supervisor

    Location: Edo
    Employment Type: Full-time

    Duties / Responsibilities

    • Support the achievement of nursery targets within the agreed budget.
    • Organize and supervise nurseries workforce to improve outturn and workers productivity.
    • Assist with the installation and management of nurseries' irrigation systems.
    • Monitor on a daily basis the irrigation system of pre-and main nurseries.
    • In coordination with the Stores Manager, Keep a minimum stock of spare parts (both for pipes and pumps) to ensure zero downtime for the irrigation system.
    • Monitor at all times availability of fuel/power for the water pumps
    • Monitor at all times the presence of the operators for the irrigation system.

    Requirements

    • Minimum of a Second Class Upper B. Agric (Hons) in Agronomy, Agric Economics or Extension from a reputable tertiary institution.
    • Postgraduate certificates in agriculture and business studies will be an advantage.
    • Applicant must have 5 - 10 years of working experience in a similar role
    • Field experience in a palm oil nursery is a strong advantage
    • Good technical knowledge, preferably with plumbing networks, including pumps and piping.
    • Good common sense and hands-on approach.
