    Nurse

    Position Details

    • Under the direct supervision of the Health Supervisor, the Nurse provides patients consultations in collaboration with Midwife and other team members in the facility.
    • S/he follows PUI protocols and standards to ensure Quality and continuity of care, promotion and restoration of health of patients and population.

    Responsibilities and Tasks
    Patient Care:

    • Ensure and conduct the medical consultations with full history taking, clinical examination and provide a diagnosis and prescribe treatment accordingly following the protocols and universal precautions
    • Clearly explain the diagnosis and treatment to the patient and make sure that the patients comply with the treatment
    • Request for a 2nd evaluation of the patient when needed
    • Provide individual health promotion during consultations
    • Delegate the treatment cares(distribution of drugs, injections, dressings…) to Nurse assistant
    • Manage and report any suspected communicable disease case according to Première Urgence Internationale’s protocols and national Disease Surveillance guidelines
    • Execute any action requested by the PM, DPM or Medical Coordinator as part of the outbreak response plan
    • Actively participate in the good cohesion and coordination of the team
    • Record on a readable manner the health status and medical prescription
    • Participate in the follow-up of the waste management according to the waste management procedures
    • Collaborate with other departments as needed to ensure smooth implementation and integration of services.
    • Participate in any other activities such as vaccination, survey according to the needs and as directed.
    • Maintain the working environment in a clean and presentable state.

    Management of an Efficient Referral System:

    • Manage the emergency and electives referral cases according to the referral protocol by facilitating the logistics including transportation means, appointment with specialists, laboratory tests etc. in collaboration with OPT supervisor
    • Follow up the referred cases, and check the outcome
    • Ensuring appropriate follow-up care has been given and taking appropriate action if further care is needed
    • Identify and refer patients who need mental health consultation

    Medical Data Collection and Reporting:

    • Record accurately and on a readable manner, the clinical case management on the patient health card (history taking, physical examination, treatment, investigation, etc.), and patient registration book
    • Ensure an accurate daily use and tracking of epidemiological data
    • Participate actively in the early warning system and the outbreak response plan
    • Collect general information about the people living conditions
    • Participate to the assessment of health needs
    • Participate to the weekly medical statistic report in collaboration with OPT supervisor and the deputy program manager
    • Ensure an oral hand over at every team change over, draw attention to any notable events during the shift
    • Report to the supervisor any problem especially the gap/loss/robbery/damage of medical equipment or medicines or any patient and organizational issue.
    • Inform the direct supervisor of the various needs.

    Internal and External Representation:

    • Participate in any training to improve the quality and efficiency of nursing cares and duties
    • Participate actively in meetings when required.

    Requirements

    • Education Degree: Recognized Nurse Degree (at least certificate level) with national legislation and valid License number.
    • Work experience: At least 2 years of experience in Nursing, or in OPD services. Work experience with other NGO’s would be an asset.
    • Language Skills: Fluent in English and Hausa and good knowledge in Kanuri is an asset.

    Stabilization Center Nurse

    Responsibilities and Tasks
    Consultation and Patients Care:

    • Welcome patients to the facility cordially and systematically to facilitate their adjustment and ensure quick recovery.
    • Apply the procedures of triage and perform admissions for the new cases as per the protocol
    • Ensure quality and timely identification and treatment of medical complications associated with malnutrition in liaison with the Physicians
    • Following and adhering to current protocols on drug administration; give and advice on the drug regimen for the patients
    • Providing appropriate nutrition counselling and health education to the mothers and caretakers in the SC based on the protocols and guidelines.
    • Ensure adequate availability of all drugs and nutrition supply and ensuring stock is pre-positioned as planned.
    • Completing and updating patient file to ensure a track of patient progress.
    • Compiling statistical data (admission, default, cured, absent death) and drafting a report on activities
    • Supervise and coordinate the strict patient management in the Stabilization center and ensure the laid protocols are followed
    • Participate in daily SC ward rounds with the Physicians and fill the patient cards after the round, medications and other patient examinations or procedures
    • Strictly monitor and record the vital signs regularly as in the protocol and report any deviation from the normal
    • Ensure that all required observations, prescribed treatment, and procedures are properly carried out and documented on patient’s charts
    • Refer to the doctor in charge or to the doctor on call relevant information such as patient’s status and laboratory results, which would assist in proper clinical management
    • Monitor therapeutic Feeds and ensure that children get 3 hourly therapeutic feeds as required
    • Carry out regular procedure like taking blood samples, providing IV medications and other necessary procedures as per the physician’s prescriptions
    • Facilitate a timely referral of complicated SAM cases from the OTPs to the SC and vice versa and accompany patient when necessary.
    • Provide all other necessary nursing care and procedures for the patients.
    • Assist patients with activities of daily living while in the ward.

    Team Management and Internal Coordination:

    • Provide regular mentoring and on-the-job training for the SC Nutrition Feeding Assistants
    • Ensure caretakers of SC patients receive appropriate nutrition education and referred and linked to community IYCF team
    • Participate actively in meetings when required.

    Position Details

    • Working under the guidance and supervision of the Health & Nutrition Supervisor, the Nutrition Officer or OTP Nurse will be directly responsible for implementation of Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) or Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) program depending on assignment.
    • Responsibilities will include day to day supports to Nutritional activities in the health facilities, mobile health outposts and their catchment communities, monitoring of activities, report making, coordination with other sectors as well as close collaboration with the Nutrition unit at the MOH health facility staff and managers.

    Responsibilities and Tasks
    Implementation And Monitoring Of The Nutrition Activities:

    • Responsible for day to day management of nutrition activities at OTP or IYCF project sites according to the standardized protocols, policies and guidelines outlined by the Nigeria Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) and/or Global nutrition standards
    • Traige and manage patients according to severity of their condition and refer where necessary
    • Ensure Assistant accurately Take anthropometric measurements (MUAC, weight, height, oedema, use of w/h charts) and evaluate the result

    • Implement the outpatient therapeutic feeding of severely malnourished under-fives, and community outreach integrated with Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) according to the stipulated protocols
    • Train and mentor the nutrition program staff and the integrated community nutrition mobilisers (CNM) through identification of capacity gaps and carrying out refresher trainings and on-the-job trainings
    • Disseminate key messages on nutrition to the targeted beneficiaries, and ensure it is delivered appropriately
    • Participate in surveillance activities including mass MUAC screening of the under-fives/pregnant and lactating woman based on project needs.
    • Enhance close collaboration with Health, Food Security, and Protection and Community Outreach (PCO) at project level
    • Compile and submit accurate weekly and monthly project data/reports of all the nutrition activities
    • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    Mandatory Requirements

    • Education Degree: Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Nursing with practicing license is an added advantage.
    • Work experience: At least 2 years’ experience in CMAM and IYCF in Emergency in host communities or IDP camp settings. Experience in NGO is mandatory.
    • Language skills: Good command in English, (speaking, reading & writing) Hausa, Kanuri and Gwoza local dialect is an added advantage.

    Knowledge and Skills:

    • Understanding of nutritional surveillance and information systems
    • Proven ability and experience in planning and conducting formal training session on nutrition including CMAM and IYCF
    • Ability to deal with relations with local authorities as a nutrition representative of PUI in the working area

    Midwife

    Responsibilities and Tasks
    Patient Care:

    • Prepare all the materials and ensure that everything is ready before starting the activities
    • Perform antenatal consultations including screening tests according to the protocols, detect and mention all the risk factors.
