    Assistant/Associate Professor (Entrepreneurship and Management)

    SUMMARY OF POSITION

     

    The position will be charged with the responsibility of teaching both required and elective entrepreneurship courses in our undergraduate and graduate programs. Areas of teaching emphasis include entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship, international development, management, marketing, microfinance, ICTs in development. Develop, market, and run targeted pro-bono and/or fee-for-service workshops for customers, micro-enterprises, and SMEs.In addition S/he must exhibit a strong commitment and a willingness to engage students within and beyond the walls of the traditional classroom in accordance with the university’s policy and procedure.

    DETAILED LISTING OF RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Teach assigned courses as specified in the schedule and course contract
    • Evaluate and select texts and instructional materials; prepare course materials and lesson plans
    • Provide students an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the School, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines and evaluation criteria
    • Use the established learning management system to post syllabus, assignments and other materials and to communicate with students
    • Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles and provide interesting and engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of concepts covered
    • Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions or examinations; provide feedback in a timely manner on student progress
    • Attend classes regularly and on time (except for online pedagogy elements)
    • Be available for student consultation through office hours or scheduled appointments or by phone or email
    • Maintain records of enrolment and attendance, assessments and grades, submit class rosters and grade sheets by established deadlines
    • Encourage students to submit course evaluations, review course evaluations when available and use feedback to improve course delivery
    • Revise and update course content as needed
    • Attend one or more orientation sessions to become familiar with the University’s mission and teaching philosophy, policies and procedures and the learning management system
    • Meet with the Dean or Program Chair as needed to discuss all aspects of the course including student progress and curriculum development (may be required to provide input into program development)
    • Submit an annual performance review

     

    Requirements for the position:

     

      • PhD in Entrepreneurship or Management with strong emphasis in Entrepreneurship or related business discipline is required
      • Master’s Degree or MBA with a concentration in Entrepreneurship very desirable
      • Significant post-secondary teaching experience, promising scholarship and  teaching entrepreneurship courses is desirable
      • Significant (5 years desired) documented entrepreneurial experience in business a huge plus
      • Prior teaching experience in a graduate or undergraduate program or corporate training
      • Ability and experience teaching across disciplines (e.g. marketing, sales management, international development, social and women empowerment, microfinance, etc.) is a plus
      • Experience teaching classes via distance learning a big plus

    Assistant/Associate Professor (Operations Management)

    SUMMARY OF POSITION

    This position is charged with the responsibility of teaching both required and elective operations and management science courses in our undergraduate and graduate programs. Areas of teaching emphasis include operations and supply chain management, management science, business analytics, decision analysis, and decision modelling, JIT. In addition, S/he must be able to engage students within and beyond the walls of the traditional classroom and also be comfortable using business analytics and decision analysis and modelling tools and technologies in the classroom in accordance with the university’s policy and procedure.

    Assistant/Associate Professor (Finance and Accounting)

    SUMMARY OF THE POSITION

    This position will teach both required and elective finance courses in our undergraduate and graduate programs. A strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research is expected.  Areas of teaching emphasis include corporate finance, financial institutions, investments, and international finance. Applicants should be familiar or be comfortable using STATA and/or MATLAB in the classroom.     Assistant Professor of Computer Science

    Summary of position:

     

    The Assistant Professor of Computer Science will be responsible for teaching, research and community service as may be requested by the Dean.S/he contributes to preparing students to be applied and practical, critical thinkers and problem solvers. S/He shall work closely with the Dean of the school in formulating and implementing course structure that would translate to effective teaching and learning of the subject matter in accordance with stipulated policies and procedures.

     

     

    General responsibilities include:

     

    • Teaching: The primary responsibility of a faculty member is for teaching and for supporting student learning both inside and outside the classroom.

     

    • Class Attendance: Faculty members should make clear that students are expected to attend class and complete required assignments.

     

     

    • Academic Advising: Available to assist students throughout the semester.

     

     

    • Department/Schools Meetings: Attending meetings on a regular basis and as necessary to facilitate communication and to accomplish the work required for the smooth operation of the department and school.

     

    • Attendance at Academic Functions: Full-time faculty members are expected to attend meetings of the faculty and any all-college meetings called by AUN administration.
    • Research: Faculty members are to engage in research activities that will promote self-development and the University
    • Community Service: Faculty are to contribute to AUN community service and development activities

     

     

    Requirements for the position:

     

    • Must have a terminal degree in Computer Science from a reputable University
    • Must have a minimum of five years of teaching & research experience garnered at a reputable University
    • Must be proficient in use of ICT tools and e-resources for teaching and research
    • Must possess verifiable evidence of scholarly publications in reputable journals

     

    Other requirements, abilities for the position:

     

    • Applicants are expected to have the appropriate academic credentials, as well as successful post-secondary teaching experience.
    • Experience in Africa or other parts of the developing world is a plus.
