    Business Development Lead (Sales / New Business Strategy / Sponsorship)

    Job Description:

    Our client a major sporting league expanding to the African continent is currently in search of an experienced sales/ marketing professional for the New Business Development team to be based in Lagos, Nigeria reporting to the VP & Country Head of Nigeria.  This position plays a key role in generating new sponsorship revenue for the business in Nigeria. The ideal candidate must be a dynamic team player, with excellent storytelling, communication, and negotiation skills.

    The successful candidate will be implementing the new business development strategy with a focus on new partnership development - prospecting, pitching, negotiating, and securing new marketing partners. The role will require frequent travel throughout the region and will work closely with the Marketing, Media, Events, and other groups to create and drive new revenue streams.

    Responsibilities:

    • Contribute to the development and implementation of the business development strategy for the business in Nigeria
    • Build relationships with senior-level decision makers at prospective sponsors, relevant marketing agencies, event management companies, and promoters to generate new partners and other new business opportunities
    • Manage the sales process from proposal to deal memo submission and contract execution by liaising with other departments (Legal, Finance, etc.)
    • Adapt current group marketing programs and create new initiatives tailored to the business in Nigeria
    • Maintain a database of highly valuable targets and opportunities
    • Monitor the activity of other sports and entertainment properties in the region
    • Prospect, target, pitch and secure the business sponsorship, event, and media partnerships
    • Develop and maximize networking opportunities with potential and existing sponsors and relevant marketing agencies
    • Understand the prospect’s brand DNA and design sales presentations to reflect brand synergies and positioning
    • Deliver impactful on-brand and on-target partnership programs for new business prospects
    • Use storytelling to effectively sell-in partnership ideas to new business prospects
    • Develop, visualize, and present customized partnership solutions for prospective sponsors
    • Facilitate ideation by leading cross-functional brainstorms to inform creative solutions
    • Liaise with colleagues globally across the group to uncover business development opportunities
    • Maintain a strong understanding of industry marketing channels and technologies that clients may utilize in activating a sponsorship

    Internal Partnerships:

    • Establish and develop close relationships with the groups global account teams, ensuring that they are proactively informed about all the Nigeria plans, initiatives, and projects
    • Develop and execute a detailed and coherent plan focused on engaging the Groups global account teams with exciting and consistent presentations, aiming to get them on board with all the plans, initiatives, and projects so those can be considered as key components for all global or regional new partnership opportunities and upsells
    • Represent the Nigeria Business in global pitches and status meetings, providing relevant information and insights about the plans, initiatives, and projects, while also outlining clearly how current and potential global partners would receive value through those

    Requirements: Qualification and Skill

    • Minimum of 8 years of sales and/or business development experience
    • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred but not required
    • Strategic thinker – able to shape, develop and execute the strategy for the Business
    • Strong persuading and negotiation skills
    • A credible communicator, adept at operating at the board level
    • Commercially minded and results-driven
    • Excellent presentation skills
    • Ability to work well within a matrixed organization
    • A passion for sports preferred
    • Successful track record building business in Nigeria; must have a strong understanding of the market and a network of relationships across all sectors of Nigeria’s marketing and media landscape

    Our client, an international mining house, is seeking a Director: Future Capability to join their new venture in Guinea. As part of a newly formed organisation the primary objective of the role will be to deliver a programme of capability and capacity development activity that is sustainable with development and management contribution from those who stand to benefit. The focal point of activity will not be strictly governed or restricted to core mining functions but rather will be developed in consultation and engagement with and consideration to institutional and government priorities.  Outcomes of activity will not only deliver a direct and positive talent impact for the company but also a far broader range of education, development and skills improvement for Guinea.  The process of development should ensure that institutions and organisations are, in time, able to develop strategy and deliver outcomes in absence of direct company or donor intervention.

    Responsibilities:

    • Development and implementation of the 5 Year Future Capability Strategy and plan for execution
    • Lead the Guinea capacity development team in developing and implementing capability programmes and activities, develop risk mitigation plans and design, implement, and evaluate capacity development plans
    • Lead the development and management of the company’s relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations and private sector to share learning, capacity development cases, and innovations.
    • Coordinate closely and regularly with the Head of Country, Regional Economic Development team and other key stakeholders to ensure that capacity development interventions are in line with company goals and budget.
    • Work with and through local and global implementing partners, providing technical leadership and guidance for their successful and compliant delivery of project activities.
    • Monitor and track the outcomes and results of the capacity and capability building interventions and use all relevant data/information to continually improve the project’s performance.
    • Conceive and provide technical direction to the capture and publication of key lessons, best practices and other stories for high quality publication of the project’s progress and learnings.
    • Troubleshoot through identifying potential issues, thinking critically to determine the best course of action and implementation adequate solutions.
    • Supervise a team of staff and network of consultants and partners to ensure excellence in their performance, client engagement, quality and timeliness of deliverables

    Our client is a leading Smelter and Refinery, who is seeking a West African Sourcing and Sales Representative to join their team. The purpose of the role is to represent the client in West Africa to target mainly commercial mines in sourcing gold smelter and gold refinery feedstock for the company. The incumbent will travel and conduct responsible sourcing site visits and conduct due diligences as requested by the company on small scale / artisinal mines / traders as deemed necessary. This role reports to the Head: Sourcing & Business Development and Sourcing Manager.

    Responsibilities:

    • The core function is to source byproducts
    • Sourcing dore - the majority of commercial gold mines produce an impure gold bar (dore) which is exported to, and refined by, an LBMA Good Delivery Refiner
    • Conduct due diligence auditing/responsible sourcing compliance
    • Attraction and retention of potential and existing customers / bring business in
    • Interact effectively through communication at all levels, building relationships, negotiation and gaining commitment
