    Data Analyst

    Department: Research, Ethics & Governance
    Status: Full-Time, Exempt
    Reports to: Research Data Insight Lead
    Industry: Biotechnology

    Job Description

    • We are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about data to join our team at 54gene.
    • This role is responsible for developing and maintaining our database, developing reports, and troubleshooting data quality issues.
    • Required are an eye for detail, experience in data analysis and statistics, and a deep understanding of the popular data analysis and data management, Programming language tools such as Excel, Tableau, SPSS, STATA, SQL, Phyton, and R.

    Requirements
    Essential Functions:

    • Develop and implement databases, data analytics and assist in creating Electronic Data Capture.
    • Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources.
    • Develop scripts and queries to import, clean, and transform data in order to enhance data quality.
    • Identify, analyse, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets.
    • Prepare detailed reports that help the team identify areas of opportunity and provide insight to guide future studies.
    • Drive best practices in visual technologies for building project dashboards that provide essential data for project monitoring.
    • Supervising and implementing data quality control processes. 
    • Identify and define new processes, improvements, and opportunities.
    • Performs related responsibilities as required.

    Qualifications
    Education & Certifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Management or Statistics/Biostatistics.
    • 1 - 3 years of work experience.
    • Master’s degree Preferred
    • Certifications for statistical software’s will be excellent.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • You have proven working experience as a Data Analyst or Business Data Analyst working with large spreadsheets.
    • Proven Proficiency in spreadsheet applications (google sheet and Excel) with knowledge of REGEX, INDEX MATCH, lookups, and formulas to find hidden patterns, data outliers and exceptions.
    • Adequate Knowledge of both descriptive and inferential statistics and working experience in statistical packages (SPSS, STATA, EPI-INFO, GraphPad Prism etc.) for analysing datasets.
    • Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages and automated dashboards: Tableau and Power BI; Database design and management systems: MySQL, PostgreSQL; and programming language for data models, data mining: R, Python.
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organise, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings
    • Great communication skills are required.

    Epidemiologist

    Job Description

    • We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about research to join our team at 54gene.
    • Under limited supervision, the epidemiologist would have knowledge of advanced statistical methods to analyze, develop, implement, and promote new and creative strategies and solutions to address public health issues and challenges in a clinical research environment.

    Requirements
    Essential Functions:

    • Responsible for supporting the operational teams in the management and implementation of epidemiological studies: involved in the strategic plan, discussion, study design, protocol review, data collection, compilation and interpretation and scientific writing for publication, as well as literature reviews and compilation of existing epidemiologic data.
    • Designs manage and evaluate large, country-level studies.
    • Thoroughly understand and advise on the development of the Study Methodology and Data collection process 
    • Plan and coordinate scientific dissemination of epidemiology data, in consultation with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Provide assistance with interpretation of statistical analysis for peer review.
    • Contributes to grant proposals, protocols, data analysis plans and management, reports, manuscripts, and presentation of study findings.
    • May participate in peer-reviewed manuscript authorship and occasional travel to scientific conferences.
    • Performs related responsibilities as required.

    Qualifications
    Education and Certifications:

    • MS or MPH Degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics or related quantitative discipline;
    • 2+ years of experience preferred
    • PhD Degree in related fields encouraged to apply as well.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Past experience working on research studies involving retrospective data collection from medical records. Bonus: past experience working at/with a biotech or pharmaceutical company or clinical training/experience
    • Past experience designing survey questions and electronic case report forms (CRFs).  Bonus: Experience working with SurveyCTO or Qualtrics
    • Strong experience conducting statistical analysis using SPSS, STATA or R
    • Proven experience working on abstracts or publications: First or second author in at least ONE public health-related article.  
    • Resourceful and self-motivated; you’re not afraid to dive into a complex problem and wear lots of hats to get the job done
    • Passion for research involved in Africa and addressing unmet medical needs.
    • Experience in data collection, analysis, and written reports summarizing data collected.
    • Must have an understanding and the ability to interpret quantitative methods applied to observational data sources
    • Experience with writing protocols in general and particularly the statistical methods sections of study proposals and/or proposal requests is required
    • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, including peer-reviewed publications.
    • Expertise in epidemiologic methods including study design (cross-sectional, cohort, case-cohort, case-control, and randomized designs), study conduct, critical operational monitoring, and data analysis and interpretation.
    • Great communication skills are required.
