    Laboratory Technician

    Job Summary

    • Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Limited is seeking a competent and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to support laboratory operations through sample collection, testing, analysis, and reporting.
    • The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting laboratory diagnostics, including ELISA and PCR testing, to support poultry health management, disease surveillance, quality assurance, and biosecurity programs across the business.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Collect, prepare, and process samples for laboratory analysis.
    • Perform diagnostic testing using ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) and PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) techniques.
    • Conduct routine microbiological, serological, and molecular analyses.
    • Assist in poultry disease surveillance, monitoring, and outbreak investigations.
    • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot ELISA readers, PCR machines, and other laboratory equipment.
    • Interpret test results and prepare accurate laboratory reports.
    • Ensure adherence to laboratory quality assurance procedures and biosecurity protocols.
    • Maintain laboratory records, testing logs, and documentation.
    • Monitor laboratory consumables and reagents and initiate replenishment requests when necessary.
    • Participate in laboratory audits, proficiency testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's Degree or HND in Microbiology, Veterinary Laboratory Technology, Animal Science, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biological Sciences, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 4 years' laboratory experience, preferably within the poultry, veterinary, livestock, or agricultural industry.
    • Hands-on experience conducting ELISA and PCR testing is mandatory.
    • Knowledge of poultry diseases and diagnostic procedures will be a strong advantage.
    • Experience operating and maintaining ELISA readers, thermal cyclers (PCR machines), and related laboratory equipment.
    • Strong understanding of laboratory quality management systems and biosecurity practices.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word.

    Job Summary

    • Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Limited is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Breeder Veterinary Doctor to oversee the health, welfare, and productivity of breeder flocks. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing preventive healthcare programs, disease surveillance, biosecurity measures, vaccination schedules, and veterinary interventions to ensure optimal breeder performance and hatchability results.
    • The role requires close collaboration with farm management, production teams, hatchery personnel, and laboratory staff to maintain high standards of poultry health and operational efficiency.

    Key Responsibilities
    Flock Health Management

    • Develop and implement comprehensive breeder flock health programs.
    • Monitor flock health, mortality, morbidity, body weight, uniformity, and production performance.
    • Diagnose, treat, and manage poultry diseases and health challenges.
    • Conduct routine farm visits and health assessments across breeder farms.
    • Investigate disease outbreaks and implement corrective actions promptly.

    Vaccination and Disease Control

    • Develop and oversee breeder vaccination schedules.
    • Monitor vaccine administration and effectiveness.
    • Coordinate disease surveillance and monitoring programs.
    • Interpret laboratory results and recommend appropriate interventions.
    • Collaborate with laboratory personnel on diagnostic investigations and testing.

    Biosecurity Management

    • Ensure strict compliance with farm biosecurity protocols.
    • Conduct regular biosecurity audits and risk assessments.
    • Develop and implement disease prevention strategies.
    • Train farm personnel on biosecurity practices and disease prevention measures.

    Production Support

    • Monitor breeder flock performance indicators, including egg production, fertility, hatchability, feed consumption, and mortality rates.

    • Work closely with production and hatchery teams to improve reproductive performance and chick quality.
    • Support flock placement, transfer, and depletion activities.

    Regulatory and Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with veterinary regulations, animal welfare standards, and company policies.
    • Maintain accurate veterinary records, treatment logs, vaccination records, and health reports.
    • Prepare periodic veterinary and flock performance reports for management.
    • Participate in audits, inspections, and certification programs.

    Team Leadership and Training

    • Supervise veterinary assistants and farm health personnel.
    • Provide technical guidance and training to farm staff.
    • Promote best practices in poultry health management and welfare.

    • Breeder flock mortality rates.
    • Flock health status and disease incidence.

    Requirements

    • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from a recognized institution.
    • Valid registration with the Veterinary Council of Nigeria.
    • Minimum of 3–5 years' experience in poultry veterinary practice, with significant exposure to breeder operations.
    • Strong knowledge of breeder flock management, poultry diseases, vaccination programs, and biosecurity systems.
    • Experience in poultry production performance analysis and disease diagnostics.
    • Ability to interpret laboratory reports and make data-driven decisions.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and reporting tools.
    • Membership of relevant professional associations will be an added advantage.
