    Generator Operator

    Job Summary:

    The Generator Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and performing routine maintenance on diesel powered generators to ensure optimal performance at client locations. The role includes setup, refueling, basic troubleshooting, and reporting issues promptly.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Operation & Monitoring

    • Start, operate, and shut down generators as per SOP.
    • Monitor generator performance (oil pressure, fuel level, voltage, current, frequency, temperature).
    • Conduct hourly or shift-based checks and log readings.

    Maintenance & Refuelling

    • Perform daily visual inspections (oil leaks, fuel lines, battery condition, etc.).
    • Carry out minor maintenance like oil changes, filter cleaning, and battery checks.
    • Ensure timely refuelling and maintain accurate fuel usage logs.

    Deployment & Setup

    • Assist in generator delivery, installation, and setup at customer locations.
    • Connect loads properly using correct cables and earthing.
    • Ensure safe positioning and ventilation of the generator.

    Safety Compliance

    • Follow all safety and environmental procedures.
    • Use PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) at all times.
    • Report hazards or incidents immediately.

    Reporting & Documentation

    • Maintain a daily operations logbook and service checklist.
    • Report faults, repairs, and service requirements to the maintenance team.
    • Communicate client complaints or site issues promptly.

    Key Skills & Competencies:

    • Knowledge of diesel generators (Perkins, Cummins, FG Wilson, etc.)
    • Ability to read gauges and interpret readings
    • Basic electrical knowledge (advantageous)
    • Problem-solving and attention to detail
    • Physical fitness and stamina
    • Strong communication skills

    Qualifications:

    • OND/Technical Certificate in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or relevant trade.

    Generator Maintenace Manager

    REPORTING TO: 

    General Manager 

    DEPARTMENT: 

    Maintenance

    JOB SUMMARY:

    We are seeking an experienced Generator Maintenance Manager with a minimum of 10 years in generator maintenance and technical operations, including team leadership and SOP development. This role is responsible for leading the maintenance department, overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance of diesel powered generators (e.g., Perkins, Cummins, Mikano, FG Wilson), establishing and enforcing standard operating procedures, and ensuring high operational uptime and customer satisfaction.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Maintenance Operations & Technical Oversight
    • Supervise and coordinate all maintenance activities on generators (ranging from 40kVA to 1500kVA).
    • Ensure effective troubleshooting, diagnostics, servicing, and repair of generators and related systems.
    • Review and approve maintenance schedules, parts planning, and maintenance logs.
    • People Management & Team Leadership
    • Lead, coach, and mentor a team of technicians and field engineers.
    • Plan manpower deployment and on-call rosters.
    • Conduct performance reviews, technical assessments, and staff training sessions.
    • SOP Development & Compliance
    • Develop, document, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for generator maintenance and safety protocols.
    • Monitor compliance with internal processes and industry standards.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in service delivery.
    • Asset Management & Reporting
    • Maintain accurate service records, asset tracking, and maintenance logs.
    • Prepare regular reports on generator health, downtime, service costs, and KPIs.
    • Support budgeting and cost control of maintenance operations.
    • Health, Safety & Regulatory Compliance
    • Ensure adherence to HSE standards during generator servicing and operation.
    • Conduct risk assessments and enforce lock-out/tag-out procedures where necessary.
    • Liaise with regulatory bodies for compliance and certifications.
    • Stakeholder & Customer Interface
    • Serve as technical lead in client meetings, inspections, and incident investigations.
    • Respond promptly to critical breakdowns and client complaints.
    • Provide technical advice to management and cross-functional teams.

    QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

    • HND/BSc in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electromechanical Engineering.
    • Minimum 10 years’ experience in generator maintenance, with at least 5 in a managerial or supervisory role.
    • Strong background in diesel generator systems (Perkins, Cummins, etc.).
    • Proven experience developing and enforcing maintenance SOPs.
    • Proficient in CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) tools.

    Generator Maintenance Officer

    Job Summary:

    The Generator Maintenance Officer is responsible for the effective maintenance, servicing, troubleshooting, and repair of diesel generators to ensure optimal functionality and minimal downtime. This role ensures that all generators are maintained in line with manufacturer guidelines, health & safety regulations, and company SOPs.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Routine Maintenance:

    • Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance (oil changes, filter replacements, coolant checks, etc.)
    • Perform daily/weekly/monthly inspections on all assigned generator sets.
    • Maintain accurate records of service activities and generator performance.

    Repairs & Troubleshooting:

    • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults.
    • Carry out corrective maintenance including repairs and part replacements.
    • Respond to breakdowns or service calls promptly, ensuring minimal equipment downtime.

    Generator Operations:

    • Start, test-run, and shut down generator units safely.
    • Ensure all generator systems (fuel, oil, coolant, battery, control panel) are functioning properly.
    • Monitor runtime hours and maintain proper load management.

    Record Keeping & Reporting:

    • Log maintenance and repair activities accurately in maintenance records.
    • Report major faults and recommend solutions or escalation where necessary.
    • Maintain inventory of tools, spare parts, and consumables.

    Compliance & Safety:

    • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures during maintenance and operation.
    • Identify and report any safety or operational risks.

    Support Services:

    • Coordinate with field technicians or operators to support installations, relocations, or site commissioning.
    • Assist in training junior staff or apprentices when required.

    Key Requirements:

    Education & Qualifications:

    • Minimum of OND, Technical School Certificate, or relevant vocational training in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
    • Certification in generator servicing (e.g., Cummins, Perkins, Mikano) is a plus.
    • Experience:
    • 2–5 years hands-on experience in generator maintenance (40kVA to 500kVA and above).
    • Familiarity with major brands like Perkins, Cummins, FG Wilson, Mikano, etc.

    Technical Skills:

    • Strong understanding of diesel engine systems.
    • Ability to read wiring diagrams and use diagnostic tools.
    • Proficient in mechanical and basic electrical fault-finding.

    Soft Skills:

    • Attention to detail.
    • Good communication and reporting skills.
    • Ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
