    Senior Backend Engineer II & III

    Job Summary

    • We're continuing to hire multiple Senior Backend Engineers (I, II & III) as we scale our growing FinTech team at M-KOPA. Build sophisticated event-driven microservices that unlock financial inclusion across Africa.

    What You Need

    • We expect you to be comfortable working as part of a team which owns the entire software stack, including supporting infrastructure, throughout the entire software lifecycle - from inception through production to decommissioning under a DevOps culture.
    • You'll value the constraints that continuous delivery places upon engineering processes and embrace testing and observability as first-order concerns in development.

    Required Experience

    • Strong grasp of C# .NET development

    Senior Product Designer - Retention

    About the job

    • We are looking for a Senior Product Designer to drive exceptional user experiences for our retention products as we scale up and drive digital and financial inclusion across our markets.

    Responsibilities
    In this role, you would be responsible for:

    • Conducting user research and translating insights into compelling design solutions for cash loans, airtime, and health insurance products
    • Creating end-to-end design experiences using established design systems while ensuring visual cohesion
    • Developing prototypes and iterating based on user testing and stakeholder feedback
    • Collaborating with Product Management and Tech teams to define UX strategy for your product area
    • Implementing and extending our design system to ensure consistency across multiple touchpoints
    • Conducting usability testing and incorporating feedback to optimize customer experiences
    • Working directly with customers to understand their needs and validate design decisions
    • Partnering with engineering teams to ensure high-quality implementation of designs
    • Contributing to design metrics that demonstrate impact on business outcomes
    • Since this role requires conducting user research in market, the ideal candidate for this role should either be based in or willing to relocate to either Kenya or Nigeria.

    Requirements
    Your application should demonstrate:

    • 5+ years experience in product design with a focus on customer-facing digital products
    • Strong UX/UI design skills with proven ability to create intuitive, user-centered designs
    • Extensive experience conducting user research and translating findings into design decisions
    • Proficiency in prototyping tools (Figma, Sketch, or similar) and creating interactive prototypes
    • Experience working with and contributing to design systems from concept to implementation
    • Ability to balance user needs with business goals and technical constraints
    • Strong collaboration skills working with cross-functional teams
    • Experience with end-to-end product design from research through implementation
    • Excellent communication skills with ability to articulate design decisions to diverse stakeholders
    • Experience in fintech, financial services, or insurance products is highly desirable.

    Job Description

    • We are looking for a Director - level Head of Product Design to lead and evolve our Product Design function as we scale up and drive digital and financial inclusion across our markets.
    • This role offers the opportunity to reshape how design drives business strategy and customer experience at a crucial growth moment. You'll lead cohesive, high-quality user experiences across all touchpoints for customers across multiple African markets, working with talented cross-functional teams including product managers, engineers, data scientists, and commercial stakeholders.

    In this role, you would be responsible for

    • Leading the strategic direction and evolution of our Product Design function
    • Collaborating with Product Management and Tech leadership to define overall UX strategy
    • Building and maintaining design systems that ensure visual cohesion while enabling rapid innovation
    • Reviewing design work to ensure quality and cohesion before release
    • Mentoring design team members and fostering a sense of belonging while helping advance their careers
    • Working with marketing teams to ensure visual cohesion across the M-KOPA brand
    • Translating design metrics into business outcomes that executives understand and value
    • This role will require frequent travel across our operational markets, therefore an ideal candidate should either be based in one of our markets or be willing to relocate. This will allow you to be at the heart of Africa's most dynamic tech hubs with direct access to our core market.

    Your application should demonstrate

    • 10+ years experience leading design teams and complex projects in digital products
    • Deep understanding of UX strategy with the ability to balance business goals with user needs
    • Experience building and maintaining design systems across multiple touchpoints
    • Solid leadership and mentoring capabilities

    • Solid interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
