    The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable applicants for the positions below at the Institute’s headquarters in Ibadan

    5 Positions

    Duration: 6 months’ renewable                                            

     DUTIES:

    •  Ensures guests arrive to clean rooms, maintain high levels of cleanliness and standards throughout the unit.
    • Assist in changing bed linen, make beds and replace used towels.
    • Sweep, mop floors, vacuum carpets/rugs and dust furniture.
    • Replenish bath care products (e.g. soap and shampoo).
    • Restock beverages and food items in the mini bar when required.
    • Clean public areas, like corridors, toilets, Cappa Bar, Cafeteria etc.
    • Report any technical issues and maintenance needs.
    • Address guests’ queries (e.g. on additional services) and help guests retrieve lost items.
    • Pick up any liter around the dormitories or Ihouse areas. And ensure all assigned rooms are clean and tidy by the end of the shift.
    • Follow Ihouse safety & security guidelines, deliver and retrieve items on loan to guests e.g. iron and ironing boards and ensure security of guest rooms and privacy of guests.
    • Service bathrooms by washing and emptying bins, wash all glass surfaces and floors, clean shower, bath, basin, bidet, and toilet to the best quality standard.
    • Clean individual offices or workstations, dust shelves, scrub toilets, and polish furniture.
    • Ensure that rooms are regularly cleaned according to the guest house procedures
    • Take care of personal hygiene and tidiness as well
    • Perform any other job-related task as may be assigned by the Supervisors.

    Requirements

    QUALIFICATION:                        

    • O’level with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience performing a similar role in a well-structured environment.

     COMPETENCIES:

    The ideal candidate must:

    • Have excellent interpersonal, multi-tasking and communication skills.
    • Have ability to work with little or no supervision.

    Description

    Laundry Assistant

    Description

    The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable applicants for the position below at the Institute’s Headquarters in Ibadan:

    Contract:  3-year renewable contract                                   

    DUTIES: 

    •   Collect soiled linens from Dormitory, collect and record uniforms, lab coats etc. from other IITA units.
    • Tag and record collected linens, clothes etc., and sort fabrics for washing in relation to colour, texture and material types.
    • Wash and press linens, guest clothes, lab coats, uniforms etc. using the washing and calendar machines.
    • Pack and deliver linens, keep records and files safe for evaluation and references.
    • Promptly attend to guests, units and customers’ requests and ensure that the laundry equipment are in good working conditions.
    • Ensure personal hygiene in relation to laundry duties.
    • Ensure clean and hygienic working environment.
    • Perform any other job-related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

    Laboratory Research Technician I

    DUTIES: 

    • Assist in tissue culture laboratory, screen house and field research activities related to plantain breeding.
    • Assist with performing tissue culture and microscopy operations, data collection and processing.
    • Ensure sterile environment practices, orderliness of lab, screen house and work environment.
    • Assist in maintaining of stock and inventory for germplasm and laboratory items.
    • Participate in research data collection, entry and processing.
    • Assist in supervising casuals in daily assigned tasks.
    • Perform any other job-related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

    Requirements

    QUALIFICATION:

    • National Diploma in Agriculture or any other related field with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience performing a similar role in a well-structured environment.

    COMPETENCIES:

    The ideal candidate must:

    • Have excellent interpersonal and multi-tasking skills.
    • Attention to detail combined with good self-motivation and self-organizational skills.
    • Have a positive attitude and strong team spirit.
    • Have experience working with banana tissue culture techniques.
    • Have ability to work with digital devices for data collection and reporting.

    Laboratory Attendant III

    DUTIES: 

    • Assist with set up and maintenance of pathology phenotyping trials in the laboratory, screen house and field.
    • Carry out nematode cultures using carrot discs.
    • Assist with Pseudocercospora sp. mass production and detached leaf assays.
    • Populate and maintain the populations of the banana weevil cosmopolites sordidus.
    • Supervise casual workers for implementation of assigned tasks.
    • Perform any other job-related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

    Requirements

    QUALIFICATION:

    • O’level with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience performing a similar role in a well-structured environment.

    COMPETENCIES:

    The ideal candidate must:

    • Have excellent interpersonal and multi-tasking skills.
    • Have the ability to use basic Microsoft software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Have a positive attitude and strong team spirit.
    • Have experience in nematode cultures, nematode identification, Pseudocercospora isolation and multiplication, weevil sorting on the sexual dimorphism.
    • Have experience with field/lab data collection.•

    Laboratory Attendant

    DUTIES: 

    • Maintain a clean lab environment including lab benchtop working areas, changing rooms and instrument rooms.
    • Maintain clean culture vessels and laboratory glassware and ensure that used culture media is adequately discarded.
    • Assist laboratory staff with media preparation and screen house staff with potting of rooted plants.

    Requirements

    QUALIFICATION:

    • Have experience in field data collection, field and screen house trails and the planting materials propagation.
    • Have good communication skills (writing, reading, and speaking).

    Field Worker (Seed)

    DUTIES: 

    • Assist with routine field maintenance and data collection in Musa breeding plots and trials.
    • Assist with pollination, harvesting of pollinated bunches and seed extraction.
    • Maintenance of plants in the screen houses & propagators and ensure general upkeep of research facilities.
