    Head, Engineering and Operations (Regional)

    Job Summary

    • The Head of Engineering and Operations is responsible for Operations strategy execution and performance monitoring in Axxela’s Regional Business.
    • He/She ensures operational efficiency, asset integrity, and world-class service delivery to customers, ensuring business growth and profitability across the Regional Business Locations. He/she shall be responsible for managing and developing Operations Account Team Leads and Facility Engineers by directing and coordinating activities consistent with established goals, objectives, and policies and in addition provides technical direction and structure for Axxela’s Regional Business.
    • Specific attention is given to processes and systems, quality, health & safety, fiscal management, compliance, business performance management measures, creation of value adding business relationships/ networking, work culture enhancement, internal communication and consensus-building.
    • The incumbent leads the design and implementation of power facilities construction projects, using the standard build process including evaluation of alternatives, scoping/cost forecasting, project plan development, design, construction, commissioning and project completion, as appropriate.
    • The job holder is expected to effectively influence and manage the direction and implementation of projects safely by supervising the project teams (internal and contract personnel).

    Job Details

    Scope of Responsibility and Accountability:

    Strategic

    • Reviews current gas and power sector regulations and policies, identifies necessary adjustments for compliance with new requirements, and secures executive approval for implementation.
    • Serves as chief advisor and strategist, offering essential support to Axxela's executive management in identifying business and operational risks and resolving associated challenges.
    • Communicates key information to the Managing Director, Regional Business and relevant stakeholders across the SBU as regards marketplace needs, the competitive environment, cost management, and the provision of high-quality customer-focused products and services; such information is obtained through effective relationships and interactions within the business environment and directly with customers, technical and operating partners.
    • Collaborates with the Managing Director to expand Axxela’s regional business outreach and enhance referral networks, establishing robust technical and operational partnerships. These alliances are crucial to driving Axxela’s growth as a regional leader in integrated power and gas supply.

    Operational

    • Provides management oversight for the development of high quality, cost effective and integrated operational management programs; oversees surveys, ROW and other permit processing activities.
    • Participates in the formulation and execution of the Vision and corporate level strategic plan including those for business growth, financial management and operating efficiency
    • Ensures the effective integration of the Company’s strategic plan with its day-to-day operations and in so doing regularly interfaces with the Group and individual operating entities within the Group to determine areas of mutual collaboration towards the achievement of Group objectives.
    • Develops and fosters effective collaboration between the various functional areas/departments, and individual members of staff (within Axxela and other Companies in the Group) to ensure an integrated approach to providing high quality products and services to customers, thereby fulfilling Axxela’s mission and enabling the Company meet set goals and objectives.
    • Maintains overall responsibility for the development of comprehensive Operations management strategies.
    • Ensures smooth and efficient operations around the distribution and supply of Gas and Power to consumers, including the management of all related resources and assets associated with daily operations.
    • Ensures timely responses are prepared to queries from regulatory authorities as regards any aspect of operations.
    • Ensures customer inquiries are effectively handled.
    • Collaborates with Axxela’s leadership and management team to drive cost reduction, increase revenue, and optimize asset utilization, while ensuring product quality and meeting output targets and objectives.
    • Manages the performance, career development, welfare and motivation of employees directly within the Technical Services functional area.
    • Makes decisions and acts on behalf of the MD Regional Business in their absence, performs other duties as assigned by the MD.

    Requirements

    • 1st degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field with a minimum of second-class grade.
    • Minimum of 15 years cognate work experience, the last 5 of which must have been in a Senior Management role within a reputable and structured oil & gas business environment.  Work experience in the region is a plus.
    • Experience handling Gas pipeline construction and operations, power plant development and operations are required.
    • Proficiency in both English and French is required

    Head, Projects Development & Delivery (Integrated Power)

    Job Summary

    • The Head, Projects Development & Delivery (Integrated Power) is responsible for overseeing the technical development, execution, and implementation of power and renewable energy projects within the Integrated Power unit.
    • This role provides strategic leadership to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, adhere to quality and safety standards, and contribute to the organization's growth and sustainability objectives.
    • The incumbent leads the design and implementation of power facilities construction projects, using the standard build process including evaluation of alternatives, scoping/cost forecasting, project plan development, design, construction, commissioning and project completion, as appropriate.
    • The job holder is expected to effectively influence and manage the direction and implementation of projects safely by supervising the project teams (internal and contract personnel).

    Job Details

    Scope of Responsibility and Accountability:

    • Apply technical expertise to the management and execution of load audit and analysis on opportunities and projects, engineering and technical inputs for feasibility studies, concept selection, and Project Execution Plans (PEP) for power and renewable energy projects.
    • Oversee all engineering design (SLDs, ancillaries, layout etc.), project execution, commissioning, and handover of power and renewable energy projects.
    • Work with the Business Development team as required in technical solution development for potential clients.
    • Work with the EHSQ team to establish and implement engineering standards for power solutions execution for the organization, ensuring they are approved by the Management.
    • Identify and secure resources necessary for project delivery, including support from cross-functional teams. 
    • Ensure the technical delivery of power and renewable energy projects aligns with schedules, budgets, and quality requirements to maximize business value. Effectively manage and report changes in scope, timelines, risks, or budgets, ensuring timely resolution and alignment with company objectives.
    • Lead the execution of technical due diligence on power opportunities and projects, as may be required, particularly with respect to M&A opportunities.
    • Form and manage project teams, including internal and external resources, to ensure successful project execution.
    • Maintain comprehensive risk registers and actively manage risks to safeguard investments.
    • Ensure timely updates to management on project progress/status, risks and outcomes, highlighting issues that may require intervention.
    • Secure statutory approvals required during project execution and ensure compliance with all regulatory guidelines, company policies, and procedures, retaining necessary documentation to mitigate risks.
    • Conduct peer reviews at key stages of project execution to validate value assurance.
    • Apply relevant technical codes and standards (e.g., ANSI, ASME, API, DNV, ISO) for all engineering deliverables.
    • Evaluate the technical competence of project staff and address identified skill gaps through training or resource adjustments.
    • Accurately forecast and allocate resources, balancing costs with project requirements.
    • Work with the EHSQ team to proactively identify and address safety concerns throughout all project phases, from planning to commissioning.
    • Ensure safety protocols developed by the EHSQ team are integrated into project execution and comply with industry best practices.
    • Work with the Group’s Business Stakeholder Management team to manage relationships with key stakeholders critical to project success, leveraging internal and external resources as needed.
    • Represent the company at external functions related to power and renewable energy projects.
    • Manage pre-commissioning, commissioning, and hand over completed projects to designated Project or Operations Managers, providing all relevant documentation and operating spares.
    • Close out projects in line with company processes, ensuring lessons learned are documented and shared.
    • Ensure the active development of the members of the Projects Development & Delivery Team, including staying abreast of standards, trends, technology and other areas relevant to sustaining a high-functioning team. 
    • Undertake other responsibilities as assigned by the Managing Director, Axxela Integrated Power.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of second-class in an Engineering field; an MBA or PMP certification is an added advantage.
    • Minimum 15 years’ relevant experience, 10 of which must be in Gas and Power facilities engineering, and project management.
    • Project Management Institute (PMI), COREN certifications or equivalent qualifications are highly desirable.
    • Proven track record of leading the technical aspects of sizable power projects and managing diverse teams.
    • Strong understanding of the power and broader energy market, regulatory frameworks, and industry trends.
    • Expertise in power generation systems, power distribution and renewable energy technologies..
    • Financial acumen to manage budgets and contribute to the evaluation of investment opportunities.
