    IPC Supervisor

    Main Purpose

    • Implementing and supervising an infection control program in a project or health facility, according to MSF protocols, safety and IPC measures, in order to ensure quality of care and safety of patients, caretakers and staff.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    • The IPC Supervisor in SRH CEMONC Maduiguri Project is the main responsible for the implementation of all IPC related activities, protocols and different recommendations to ensure quality of care and patient safety in MSF Health Facilities including 5 BEmONC MOH health FacilityThe IPC Supervisor works closely with all multidisciplinary team members to raise awareness and ensure IPC issues are identified and addressed by all staff members.
    • As a member of the Infection Control Committee, participating in and supporting the development and follow-up of the Infection Control Action Plan and other communication activities are key.
    • The position requires to work in the main MSF hospital as well as in the other MSF-supported facilities
    • The position requires to work with both male and female teams Liaison with all Managers/Supervisors and Balanced Leadership and Communication Skills:
    • In collaboration with WatSan team, ensure the maintenance of a clean and hygienic environment.
    • In conjunction with Supervisors/Managers, carry out training of all staff (Medical, Lab, Hygiene Agents, Watchmen etc.) on relevant IPC information – IPC Pillars and aseptic technique.
    • In collaboration with MWAM/NTS ensure IPC protocol and policy are in place in the ward, milk kitchen and in the waste zone.
    • In Conjunction with WatSan focal person and Nursing Team Supervisor ensure waste segregation at the source and subsequent collection in different wards and keep high hygiene standard. Reporting:
    • Be responsible for monitoring of hand hygiene compliance using the hand hygiene observation tool (HHOT) and monthly updating of results and communicate the score to the team.
    • Carry out SIPCA assessment with support from line manager and subsequent writing of action plan after the SIPCA score.
    • Report IPC activities in the MMR MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
    • In collaboration with each service activity manager, maintaining and supporting the day to day implementation by the ward supervisor of the standard precautions in health structures in all departments including sterilization, laundry and kitchen, and providing technical supervision, training and support to the staff on IPC related issues using existing tools such as audits, checklist, surveillance.
    • Implementing and monitoring adherence to additional precautions for air, droplet and contact transmissible diseases when indicated. Based on a given patient-diagnosis, evaluating the need and supporting the implementation, if needed, for additional precautions in collaboration with the medical team and act accordingly
    • Supporting in the implementation as planned, the correct ‘clean and dirty flows’ inside the health facility. Ensuring that environmental standards and administrative measuresin the facility are respected (bed spacing, number of handwashing stations etc.) and together with the Hospital Facilities Manager and WHS Supervisor, that the essential requirements are available in the health structures
    • Guaranteeing compliance to aseptic care techniques and to the correct use of antiseptics, disinfectants and detergents, through trainings and audits.
    • Checking the consumption and the quality of IPC materials and equipment, including cleaning materials and equipment, PPE, etc.
    • As member of the Infection Control Committee, participating actively in the lively and pro-active tenue of the meeting, supporting the development and following up the Infection Control Action Plan.
    • Supervising the team under his/her responsibility and participating in the associated HR processes (e.g. recruitment, training/induction, evaluation, potential detection, coaching, development and communication) in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required.
    • Reporting any irregularities to MWAM / IPC managers / PMR and producing reports with information recommendations for the monthly medical reporting Note
    • IPC standard precautions include Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), hand hygiene, prevention of accidental exposure to body fluids, safe and appropriate treatment of re-usable medical devices, waste management, cleaning and disinfection of surface and environment, respiratory hygiene and individual hygiene for staff, caretakers and patients.
    • Transmission-based Precautions (TBP): are the second level of basic infection control and are to be used in addition to standard precautions for patients who may be infected or colonized with certain infectious agents for which additional precautions are needed to prevent infection transmission (contact, droplet, airborne). 

    Minimum Required Skills and Qualifications

    • Education: Specialty: Nursing / Midwifery Degree or Diploma essential
    • Experience: Essential 3 years of previous experience having worked in MSF or other NGO and in developing countries is desirable. Experience working as Infection Prevention Control focal person or Manager.
    • Languages: English language essential, Hausa and Kanuri languages desirable.

    Obstetrician Gynaecologist

    Main Purpose

    • Implement gynaecological and obstetrician procedures, performing any other prior treatment required, during or immediately after a woman has given birth in order to improve women's reproductive health and to reduce pregnancy, delivery and neonatology risks.
    • This will be done in accordance with MSF policies, protocols and universal hygiene standards and in multidisciplinary collaboration with other medical doctors and midwife services.

    Job Description

    • Provide health care related to gynecology and obstetrics to patients, including prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
    • Ensure the implementation of MSF clinical policies, tools, guidelines and protocols related to gynecology and obstetrics in order to minimize clinical risk and to extend best reproductive practices.
    • In collaboration with other medical colleagues, carry out the collection of quantitative gynecological data and ensure exhaustive use of management tools in order to improve gynecological results and to share knowledge among other field specialists.
    • Plan and supervise the HR associated processes (recruitment, training, performance evaluation, development and internal/external communication) of the gynecological staff in order to ensure both an efficient sizing and the amount of knowledge required, to improve people's capabilities and their active participation in influencing the targeted population using preventive practices. This will be done in close coordination with the HR department.
    • Supervise the maintenance and running of the gynecological equipment and drug consumption, preparing new orders when required and ensuring its rational use as well as that pharmacy stock levels are permanently updated and available. This will be done in cooperation with the pharmacist and logistic staff, the management.
    • Provide health care related to gynecology and obstetrics to patients in the project, including prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
    • Provide emergency obstetric care in the maternity:
      • Daily ward rounds in maternity with the medical and midwifery teams.
      • Ensure new admissions are assessed and receive an appropriate management.
      • Assist in management of complicated deliveries and care of pathologies.
      • Assess patients requiring any procedure e.g. instrumental delivery, intrauterine aspiration, caesarean section. Prepare them for theatre in conjunction with maternity and OT staff including informed consent of patient and care giver.
      • Ensure clear documentation and communication of the patient's status is done by all members of.
    • Participate in the on-call roster and provide support and bedside training to the member of the team on duty.
    • Conduct daily rounds and manage ICU patients in collaboration with the expat med Anesthetist.
    • Join the ward round in hospitalization (annex).
    • Perform in the operating theater.
    • Share tasks with national GPs in the management of obstetric patients; support clinical thinking and decision making, ensure safe management, and coach GPs.
    • Collaborate with obstetrics consultants from Kano teaching hospital (AKTH) and expatriate OBGYN.
    • Ensure, in collaboration with medical activity manager/MTL, the implementation of MSF clinical policies, tools, guidelines, and protocols related to gynecology and obstetrics to minimize clinical risk and extend best reproductive practices.
    • Carry out the collection of quantitative gynecological data and ensure exhaustive use of management tools to improve gynecological results and share knowledge among other field specialists.
    • Participate in the maternal mortality review process/Nearmiss (record in the dedicated tool, analysis, and presentation).
    • Can be involved in the planning and supervision of the HR associated processes (recruitment, training, performance evaluation, development, and internal/external communication) of the gynecological staff or other staff in order to ensure both efficient sizing and the required amount of knowledge to improve people's capabilities and their active participation in influencing the targeted population using preventive practices. This will be done in close coordination with the HR department.
    • Participate, in collaboration with the Nurse Activity Manager and the Midwife manager, in the maintenance and running of gynecological equipment and drug consumption, preparing new orders when required and ensuring rational use as well as that pharmacy stock levels are permanently updated and available.
    • In addition to the mentioned tasks, the person may be required to perform other duties assigned by the Medical team leader, the project coordinator, or the coordination according to the needs of the mission.

    Requirements

    • Education: Gynecology Specialist Diploma.
    • Experience: At least 2-year certified work experience in Gynaecology
    • Desirable: Previous experience with MSF or other NGOs in developing countries
    • Languages: Mission language: local working language would be an asset.

    Contract
    Contract in Jahun, 208 working hours per month and roster flexibility required

    • Worker will be requested according to project needs. Availability for 12-hour shifts, night or day is required.
