    Grant Associate

    Job Description

    • Extension Africa is seeking a Grant Associate to own our funding portfolio end to end — from building a new pipeline with large institutional funders (World Bank, African Development Bank, IFAD, EU, FCDO) to deepening existing donor relationships where the largest near-term return sits.
    • This is a strategic, high-accountability role that sits at the Office of the Chief Operating Officer and works through the Development Unit. The successful candidate will be responsible not only for what we win, but for what we choose to pursue and what we decline.
    • Duty station is Abuja.
    • Contract is 12 months, renewable subject to performance and funding.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's Degree in International Development, Agricultural Economics, Economics, Public Policy, Business Administration, or a closely related field;
    • Master's degree is an added advantage
    • Minimum of 3–5 years in grant acquisition, resource mobilisation or business development with demonstrable wins
    • Direct experience preparing submissions to at least one major institutional funder — a multilateral development bank, bilateral agency, or large private foundation
    • Proven written proposal record; candidates will be assessed on a writing sample and asked to cite specific awards secured
    • Working knowledge of donor compliance frameworks and the ability to build and defend a donor budget
    • Strong coordination skills across technical teams without direct line authority
    • Experience with consortium bids, prime–subcontractor arrangements or multi-country programmes is an advantage
    • Working proficiency in French relevant to West and Central African expansion is an advantage.

    Benefits

    • Competitive fixed salary within the applicable band with Abuja location factor applied
    • Performance incentive tied to funding secured, payable on approved pursuits
    • Exposure to a growing pan-African organisation working with multilateral and bilateral institutions
    • Strategic, high-visibility role reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer
    • Equal opportunity employer — women are strongly encouraged to apply.

Research Officer (Behavioral Research & Economics)

    Job Description

    • Extension Africa is seeking a Research Officer (Behavioral Research & Economics) to bring behavioral science into the heart of how we design and deliver advisory and business services to farmers, agents and vendors.
    • Based in Kano or Abuja, the successful candidate will lead behavioral enquiry into our users and translate findings directly into product, service and commercial decisions — research that changes what is built and sold, not research that sits in a report.
    • The role sits within the Research & Evaluation department and contributes to the wider research portfolio. Contract is 12 months, renewable subject to performance and funding. Up to 20% field travel required.

    Requirements

    • Master's Degree in Behavioral Science, Behavioral or Applied Economics, Agricultural Economics, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, or a closely related field
    • 3–5 years' applied research experience including demonstrable behavioral or experimental work
    • Demonstrated experience designing and analyzing experiments — randomized trials, A/B tests, lab-in-the-field or discrete choice experiments
    • Strong quantitative skills including regression analysis and causal inference using Stata, R or Python
    • Competence in qualitative methods: in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, observation and structured coding
    • Excellent academic and plain-English writing; candidates will be assessed on a writing sample
    • Willingness to conduct fieldwork in rural communities
    • PhD or advanced research training in a behavioral or economic discipline is an advantage
    • Publication record in peer-reviewed journals or recognized working paper series is an advantage
    • Working proficiency in Hausa or another relevant Nigerian language is an advantage.

    Benefits

    • Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience
    • 12-month renewable contract subject to performance and funding
    • Opportunity to publish peer-reviewed research under the Extension Africa name
    • Exposure to cutting-edge behavioral and experimental work in rural African contexts
    • Equal opportunity employer — women are strongly encouraged to apply.

    Evaluation Officer

    Job Description

    • Extension Africa is seeking an Evaluation Officer to bring evaluation technical depth directly into project implementation. Based in Abuja or Kano with regular field travel, the successful candidate will design and deliver needs assessments, baseline, midline and endline evaluations and impact assessments, ensuring that Extension Africa's Research & Evaluation Framework — which draws on UNDP evaluation approaches and OECD-DAC criteria — is applied consistently across all assigned projects. This is a delivery role: the successful candidate will be in the field, in the data and in the report, accountable for evidence that clients, donors and government partners can rely on. Contract is 12 months, renewable subject to performance and funding. Up to 20% field travel required.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, Statistics, Development Studies, Sociology, Rural Development, Public Health or a closely related field; Master's degree is an advantage
    • Minimum of 3 years' experience in monitoring and evaluation with at least 2 years leading or substantially contributing to baseline, mid-line, end line or impact evaluations
    • Demonstrated experience applying recognized evaluation standards — UNDP evaluation guidance or OECD-DAC criteria — in practice
    • Strong mixed-methods capability: sampling design, survey analysis, qualitative interviewing and coding
    • Practical experience with digital data collection tools (KoboToolbox, ODK, SurveyCTO, CommCare or similar)
    • Proficiency in at least one statistical package (SPSS, Stata, R or Python) and advanced Excel
    • Excellent English report writing — candidates will be assessed on a writing sample
    • Willingness to travel frequently to rural project locations
    • Experience in agriculture, rural development or agri-fintech programmes in Nigeria is an advantage
    • Familiarity with Power BI or Tableau is an advantage
