    Head Nurse

    About the job

    • We’re looking for a Head Nurse who will be responsible for providing clinical leadership to the nursing team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care in accordance with established standards and protocols. This role involves developing and executing strategic plans for the nursing department that align with the hospital’s overall mission and goals while fostering a positive work environment that encourages professional growth.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Basic Nursing Functions

    • Conduct thorough assessments of patients' physical and mental health, including taking vital signs and observing symptoms.
    • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring accuracy and monitoring for side effects.
    • Manage and dress wounds using sterile techniques to promote healing and prevent infection.
    • Support patients with basic activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating to enhance their independence.
    • Educate patients and their families about health conditions, treatment plans, and preventive care.

    Leadership and Strategy:

    • Provide clinical leadership to the nursing team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care.
    • Develop and execute strategic plans for the nursing department that align with the hospital’s mission and goals.
    • Offer visionary leadership to nursing staff, ensuring compassionate, safe, and high-quality patient care.
    • Coordinate and manage the nursing team, including scheduling, mentoring, and providing guidance for optimal performance.
    • Foster a collaborative work environment that encourages professional growth and development.

    Clinical Oversight:

    • Ensure compliance with Nigerian healthcare regulations and international standards in nursing practices.
    • Develop and oversee the implementation of clinical policies, procedures, and protocols to enhance patient safety and care quality.
    • Oversee patient care activities, ensuring adherence to care plans and effective communication with patients.
    • Act as an advocate for patients, addressing concerns and maintaining a patient-focused approach in all aspects of care delivery.
    • Collaborate with medical and administrative teams to improve patient outcomes and healthcare delivery.

    Staff Management and Development:

    • Recruit, train, and mentor nursing staff, promoting a culture of continuous learning.
    • Develop effective staffing models and schedules to ensure optimal patient care.
    • Facilitate training programs for nursing staff, ensuring continuous professional development.
    • Establish a healthy working environment that supports staff well-being.
    • Ensure nurse roster and call schedule adhere to hospital guidelines and are cost-effective.

    Quality Assurance and Improvement:

    • Conduct performance evaluations for nursing staff, providing constructive feedback and recognizing achievements.
    • Lead quality improvement initiatives within the nursing department using data-driven practices.

    Budget and Resource Management:

    • Develop and manage the nursing department’s budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
    • Oversee procurement and maintenance of nursing supplies, equipment, and technology.
    • Collaborate with other departments to optimize resource allocation.

    Collaboration and Communication:

    • Serve as a liaison between nursing staff and hospital administration, advocating for the needs of the nursing department.
    • Work closely with other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care effectively.
    • Establish relationships with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and educational institutions.

    Education and Training:

    • Collaborate with the practice manager, Medical Director, and other department heads to identify training needs and develop impactful education and training programs for nurses.
    • Work with HR to create mandatory courses, appraisals and monitor and regulate the training and development of all staff.

    Requirements

    • Educational Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree in Nursing (MSN), preferred.
    • Licensures: Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
    • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of Nursing experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior management position in nursing administration.

    Certifications: Relevant certifications - RN/RM, BSN

    Staff Nurse

    Job Summary

    • The Staff Nurse will be responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients across various departments for our hospital. This role involves assessing patient needs, developing care plans, and collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure high-quality patient outcomes and high-quality nursing care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. The Nurse will play a vital role in promoting health education and supporting patients and their families. This candidate will also provide specialized care to patients with kidney-related health issues. The Nephrology Nurse will play a crucial role in educating patients about their conditions and promoting kidney health.

    Main Duties

    Patient Care Management

    • Perform initial assessments and ongoing evaluations of patients' conditions.
    • Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments as per physician orders.
    • Monitor vital signs and laboratory results related to renal function.
    • Assist with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, and feeding patients.
    • Coordinate with other healthcare professionals for comprehensive patient care.

    Patient Education

    • Provide education on health management, disease prevention, and wellness strategies.
    • Assist patients in understanding their treatment plans and medications.
    • Develop educational materials for patients on various health topics

    Dialysis Support

    • Prepare patients for dialysis sessions, ensuring comfort and safety.
    • Monitor patients during dialysis for any adverse reactions or complications.

    Documentation

    • Maintain detailed records of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
    • Ensure compliance with documentation standards set by healthcare regulations.

    Collaboration

    • Work closely with nephrologists and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress.
    • Facilitate communication between patients and healthcare providers.

    Emergency Response

    • Respond promptly to medical emergencies following established protocols.
    • Assist in resuscitation efforts when necessary.

    Infection Control

    • Implement infection control measures to prevent the spread of infections within the facility.
    • Educate patients on hygiene practices and infection prevention.

    Quality Improvement

    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care standards.
    • Collect data for performance improvement projects related to nursing practices.

    Team Leadership

    • Mentor junior nursing staff and nursing students during clinical rotations.

    Requirements

    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Basic Nursing education (RN/RM) required; certification in nephrology nursing preferred.
