JOB SUMMARY
This role provides general clinical services in inpatient or outpatient areas based on assigned responsibilities. He/she will also be responsible for providing and performing surgical intervention for general surgical cases, obstetric and gynecological cases, and other lifesaving instances.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General Clinical Tasks
- Provide high quality clinical care based on analysis of relevant and available patient history/records, appropriate physical examination, available investigations and diagnostic facilities.

- Identify any reportable diseases and notify supervisor and local health authorities; assist with outbreak response if needed according to international protocols.

- Act as facility, department or services in charge based on assigned duties.
- Collect and analyze project and service data to inform and adjust project objectives/plans, strategic choices and quality of care in collaboration with IMC team members, local partners and other relevant staff if required.
- Provide health education to patients and community members concerning their diagnoses, healthy diets, physical activity, hygiene promotion, and disease prevention (such as need for vaccination, etc.)
- Work with program staff, health facility staff and auxiliary staff (e.g. CHWs) to provide both didactic and on-the-job training to build capacity and enhance their skills as needed.
- Promote a culture of learning whereby regular case discussions, lessons-learned and good practices are shared and promoted and documented for institutional memory.
- Adhere to administrative directives with regards to work schedules, record keeping, patient communications, re-stocking of essential drugs, consumables and other medical supplies.
- Work with health facility administration to determine the operational needs of the health facility in human resources, training and supplies.
- Keep clinical records by properly filling dedicated patient files and maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Supervise the medical staff to ensure that work is done properly and efficiently.
Surgical Care Responsibilities
- Conduct OPD and evaluate cases requiring surgical care, this may include general surgical care and gynae and obstetric surgical care. Make decisions based on ethical practices and surgical competence to admit and perform procedures or refer cases for advanced further care.
- Conduct daily ward rounds to see pre and post op patients, IPD patients and guide nursing staff on appropriate treatment.
- Conduct general surgeries for common cases requiring urgent and emergency intervention such as appendicectomies, obstructed hernias, RTAs, war wounds etc. following IMC policies, guidelines and MoH protocols in consultation with line manager and senior IMC management.
- Stabilize complex cases arriving in emergency and ensure timely and appropriate referrals.
- Conduct common obstetrics and gynecology surgeries including lifesaving maternal procedures based on scope of project and work.
- Ensure proper organization of the operating theater (OT), availability of equipment and facilities to perform surgeries in a suitable environment.
- Ensure strict adherence to IPC, aseptic techniques and sterilization of equipment required for surgeries and supervise processes.
- Conduct trainings needs assessment and arrange training of clinical staff in OT, IPC staff, IPD staff.
- Ensure post op orders are followed and patients are pain free following surgeries.
- Ensure surgeries are performed in the presence of trained anesthesia staff.
