Summary

• This is routine manual work in specialized farming activities on a poultry farm.
• Work involves performing a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled poultry related tasks in accordance with specific instructions or a well-established routine. Specialized tasks are also performed in connection with the caring for poultry. Work is subject to general supervision through inspections and review of results of work.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Feeds, waters, and otherwise cares for poultry; cleans poultry houses, pens, feeders, water receptacles, boiler rooms, and sheds.
• Keeps and checks records on mortality of poultry, feeding of poultry, and other information on poultry; prepares poultry for operations or inoculations; sterilizes hatchery equipment.
• Repairs and paints sheds, barns, and fences; loads and unloads feed.
• Collects and washes eggs, candles, and stores eggs in coolers.
• Maintains proper lighting and heating for poultry pens and incubators; puts shavings in pens nests.
• Performs related work as required.

Education And Experience

• Completion of O level grade; and varied experience in poultry farm work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Some knowledge of practical farm operations.
• Some knowledge of the feedings and care of poultry.
• Some knowledge of the kinds and uses of poultry raising supplies and equipment.
• Ability to operate basic farm tools and equipment such as trucks, tractors, and mowers.
• Ability to make simple mechanical and carpentry repairs to farm equipment and buildings.
• Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.

• The successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day management of the farm sites and its team:

Key Tasks

• Manage Parent Stock Farm
• Keep daily record of all farm activities
• Ensure that all farm attendants are efficient in their duties
• Must understand all parameters of measurement of success in Parent Stock Farm
• Must understand hatchery operations
• Ensure all cocks and hen attain desired sexual maturity with approved weight
• Must ensure that productivity of hen are 80% minimum
• Must ensure that fertility of eggs are 80% minimum
• Must ensure evenness of flock (Parent Stock and Commercial Broiler)
• Must ensure stocking density of birds is at standard at all ages of birds.
• Must maintain high level of biosecurity on farm
• Must have an understanding of Human Resource Management
• Control temperature of houses for ultimate bird comfort
• Conduct maintenance on the house and watering/heating system as needed
• Control house lighting to meet bird needs

Requirements

• The ideal candidate must be honest, reliable and should be able to manage all aspect of the farm without supervision
• Bachelor’s Degree in Animal or Poultry Science, Veterinary science, Animal Production and Health Science or Animal Nutrition.
• Knowledge in Business Management, Finance, Agribusiness, Production, or related subject is a plus.
• Experience of 5+ years in a managerial position in a poultry farming company.
• Knowledgeable with the regulatory bodies regarding poultry farming and value addition.
• Effective people management skills
• Ability to carry out manual duties
• Proficient computer skills
• Experience in Poultry breeding and other Poultry stockmanship
• Knowledge of Nutrition and diet formulation
• Proficiency in food safety and quality assurance
• Knowledge of Environmental management

• 10 years field experience in Broiler Farming and 4 years as Broiler Farm Manager
