• The role is located in Lagos but allows for some work from home flexibility.

The position

• We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to build and scale advanced analytics solutions for our digital lending operations. You will work closely with a deeply experienced Data Science Manager while also bringing your own expertise, leadership, and fresh ideas to the table. We need a hands-on builder who thrives in a fast-paced environment, has a track record of meaningful project delivery, and is excited about innovation in credit risk modeling, machine learning, and AI.

In this role, you will

• Design, develop, and deploy credit risk, PD/LGD, scoring, and collection prioritization models using machine learning and AI techniques.
• Lead end-to-end modeling — data prep, feature engineering, model development, deployment, and monitoring.
• Collaborate closely with risk, business, and product teams to translate complex problems into actionable data science solutions.
• Explore and apply AI innovations (e.g., NLP, alternative data, behavioral analytics) to optimize lending decisions.
• Build and maintain model governance, explainability, and MLOps standards.
• Mentor and support junior data scientists, helping to build a culture of continuous learning and curiosity.
• Communicate insights effectively to non-technical audiences through compelling storytelling and visualization.

We are looking for people with

• 6–8+ years of hands-on data science experience, with a strong focus on credit risk modeling, fintech, or financial services.
• Advanced skills in Python, SQL, and machine learning frameworks (e.g., Scikit-learn, XGBoost, TensorFlow).
• Proven success in deploying and monitoring models in production environments.
• Deep understanding of credit risk metrics, lending strategies, and financial modeling.
• Experience with AWS, Databricks, and handling large-scale datasets.
• Familiarity or strong interest in AI applications, NLP, and advanced analytics.
• Strong communicator who can simplify the complex and work across technical and business teams.
• Innovative thinker — you love improving, questioning, and finding better ways to do things.
• Startup or high-growth fintech experience is a big plus.
