    Associate, Indirect Tax

    Job Overview

    • We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Associate specialized in providing comprehensive indirect tax services.
    • The Associate will play a key role in delivering high-quality indirect tax advisory and compliance services to our clients.
    • This position requires a strong understanding of Nigerian and international indirect tax regulations, including Value Added Tax (VAT) and Customs & Excise Duty.
    • The ideal candidate will have the ability to lead and develop teams while managing client relationships and business development.

    Responsibilities
    Technical & Advisory:

    • Lead and support teams in providing indirect tax compliance and advisory services.
    • Apply Nigerian VAT Act, Customs & Excise duty regulations, and international best practices to resolve client challenges.
    • Provide technical guidance on the interpretation and application of indirect tax legislation in advisory work, compliance reports, and responses to tax authorities.
    • Act as a liaison with clients and tax authorities, ensuring timely filing of statutory indirect tax returns.
    • Monitor changes in indirect tax laws, policy developments, and global trends, ensuring clients and internal teams stay informed of emerging regulatory requirements.

    Client &  Business Development:

    • Manage and develop relationships with clients, regulatory bodies, and external stakeholders.
    • Champion thought leadership initiatives and provide industry insights on VAT, Customs & Excise Duty, and other indirect tax matters.
    • Drive business development efforts by identifying new service opportunities and supporting the firm’s strategic initiatives.
    • Lead proposals and client pitches, contributing to the firm’s growth and revenue generation.

    People & Practice Management:

    • Supervise, mentor, and develop junior team members, fostering a culture of learning and professional growth.
    • Ensure that client assignments are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality and risk management standards.
    • Oversee engagement economics, including managing budgets, billing, and cash collection. 

    Qualifications & Experience

    • AcBachelor’s Degree (minimum second-class upper division or equivalent) in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution.
    • Professional certifications: Membership in ICAN, ACCA or CITN is mandatory.
    • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in indirect tax, preferably in a Big 4 firm or professional services firm.
    • Strong understanding of indirect tax principles, local and international VAT regulations, and Customs & Excise Duty laws.
    • Proven ability to manage complex indirect tax projects, including compliance, advisory, controversy resolution, and risk mitigation.
    • Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to interpret complex tax regulations.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with stakeholders across all levels.
    • Leadership capabilities, including the ability to manage teams and drive change in a dynamic environment.
    • Proficiency in indirect tax compliance tools and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high professional standards.

    Your key responsibilities

    • As a manager, you will advise on multiple and challenging Regulatory and tax advisory engagements and to contribute to the delivery of innovative tax and regulatory planning ideas for our diverse clients.

    To qualify for the role you must have

    • Bachelor's Degree in Law (at least a second-class upper division)
    • Minimum of 6 years of relevant regulatory compliance experience or equivalent experience in business or industry

    • Manage clients’ compliance obligations.
    • Support clients in regulatory compliance, including the timely preparation and submission of regulatory filings such as annual returns, or a timely response to regulatory circulars
    • Support clients to obtain necessary licenses, liaise with regulators, and ensure policy updates.

    Experienced Associate – Transfer Pricing

    • The ideal candidate should have a hands-on experience in preparing transfer pricing documentation, conducting benchmarking studies, completing transfer pricing returns and supporting with advisory and controversy projects.

    Key responsibilities

    • Assist with the accurate filing of transfer pricing and Country-by-Country Reporting related obligations, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.

    • Conduct economic and functional analyses to support transfer pricing positions.

    Requirements
