Treasury Accountant at HelloMe Limited

• The role will work closely with Management, Operations, Payments, Compliance, Risk, Technology, Banking Partners and external auditors to ensure that all financial and treasury activities are accurate, properly controlled, efficiently executed and compliant with applicable regulatory and statutory requirements.
• The position requires a professional who can operate effectively at the intersection of Accounting, Financial Control, Treasury, FX, Cross-Border Payments and Reconciliation.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Control

• Manage the Company's day-to-day accounting operations and financial control processes.
• Maintain accurate and complete accounting records for all business transactions.
• Oversee the General Ledger (GL) and ensure appropriate classification and posting of transactions.
• Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, prepayments, provisions and adjustments.
• Manage monthly, quarterly and annual financial close processes.
• Prepare and review Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow statements.
• Ensure balance sheet accounts are properly supported, reconciled and substantiated.
• Monitor accounts receivable and accounts payable.
• Review income, expenses, commissions, fees, charges and other financial transactions.
• Ensure accurate recognition of revenue and expenses in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
• Maintain appropriate supporting documentation and audit trails for financial transactions.
• Identify accounting discrepancies and ensure timely investigation and resolution.
• Establish and maintain strong financial controls to prevent errors, fraud and financial leakage.

Cross-Border Payment Accounting

• Oversee the accounting treatment of cross-border payment and remittance transactions.
• Reconcile transaction-level records between internal systems, bank accounts, payment processors and external partners.
• Monitor payment settlement positions across multiple currencies.
• Ensure accurate accounting and reconciliation of all transactions across customer funds, payments, FX, settlements, charges, refunds, reversals, and intercompany activities.

Treasury Management

• Manage the Company's day-to-day treasury operations and cash management activities.
• Prepare and maintain daily cash position reports across bank accounts, payment accounts and relevant financial institutions.
• Monitor cash balances and ensure sufficient liquidity is available to support payment and operational requirements.
• Prepare short-, medium- and long-term cash flow forecasts.
• Monitor expected inflows and outflows across currencies and payment corridors.
• Coordinate movement of funds between approved bank and payment accounts in line with authorised treasury procedures.
• Monitor funding requirements for cross-border payment corridors.

Foreign Exchange (FX) Management

• Monitor daily FX positions and exposures arising from cross-border transactions.
• Support the management of foreign currency balances and exposures.
• Monitor FX rates across relevant currencies and payment corridors.
• Analyse FX margins, spreads, costs and profitability.
• Reconcile FX transactions and investigate discrepancies.
• Calculate and report realised and unrealised FX gains and losses where applicable.
• Support Management in determining appropriate FX pricing and spreads.
• Monitor foreign exchange exposure and escalate material risks.
• Work with banking and liquidity partners to obtain competitive FX rates.
• Maintain accurate records of FX transactions and related accounting entries.
• Support appropriate FX risk-management and hedging strategies where approved.

Banking & Payment Partner Management

• Maintain effective financial relationships with banks, payment processors, PSPs, remittance partners and other financial institutions.
• Monitor bank and payment-provider balances.
• Review bank statements and settlement reports.
• Investigate unidentified transactions, failed settlements and discrepancies.
• Liaise with banking partners regarding:
• Settlements
• Transfers
• FX rates
• Bank charges
• Transaction limits
• Account issues
• Payment delays
• Reconciliation differences
• Maintain an up-to-date register of all Company bank and payment accounts.
• Ensure appropriate account controls and authorised signatories are maintained.
• Support the onboarding and financial due diligence of new banking/payment partners.

Reconciliation & Settlement Control

• Oversee daily reconciliation of:
• Bank accounts
• Payment accounts
• Customer transaction ledgers
• Settlement accounts
• Payment gateways
• PSP accounts
• FX accounts
• Intercompany balances
• Partner settlement reports
• Ensure reconciliation breaks are identified, investigated and resolved within agreed SLAs.
• Work with Operations, Payments and Technology teams to investigate system-to-bank discrepancies.

Financial Reporting

• Prepare accurate monthly management accounts.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
• Provide Management with financial performance reports and analysis.
• Prepare cash flow and liquidity reports.
• Prepare treasury and FX reports.
• Analyse revenue, expenses, margins and profitability.

Regulatory & Statutory Compliance

• Ensure the Company's accounting and treasury activities comply with applicable laws, regulations and internal policies.
• Support preparation and submission of relevant regulatory financial returns.
• Ensure timely compliance with applicable tax obligations, including:
• VAT
• Withholding Tax
• Corporate tax
• PAYE-related finance obligations where applicable
• Other applicable statutory obligations
• Work closely with Compliance and Legal teams on financial regulatory requirements.

Tax Management

• Coordinate with tax advisers and relevant internal teams on tax matters.
• Ensure accurate computation and timely payment of applicable taxes.
• Review tax-related accounting entries.
• Maintain appropriate tax schedules and supporting documentation.
• Support tax audits and regulatory examinations.
• Monitor tax implications of cross-border transactions.
• Assist Management in identifying legitimate tax efficiencies while ensuring compliance with applicable laws.

Internal Controls & Financial Risk Management

• Design, implement and maintain effective financial and treasury controls.
• Review existing processes to identify control weaknesses.
• Establish appropriate approval limits and segregation of duties.
• Monitor compliance with financial policies and procedures.
• Identify financial, liquidity, FX, settlement and operational risks.
• Escalate material financial risks and control breaches to Management.

Audit Management

• Coordinate financial information required for internal and external audits.
• Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation.
• Respond to auditor queries and requests.
• Ensure audit findings are properly addressed.

Budgeting & Financial Planning

• Coordinate annual budgeting processes.
• Prepare departmental and company-wide financial forecasts.
• Monitor actual expenditure against approved budgets.
• Support Management in financial planning and scenario analysis.

Payment & Treasury Data Analysis

• Analyse payment volumes, values, fees and settlement patterns.
• Monitor transaction costs and partner charges.
• Analyse profitability by payment corridor, currency, product or customer segment where applicable.
• Track FX revenue and costs.
• Monitor bank and PSP charges.
• Identify unusual financial movements and discrepancies.
• Develop dashboards and reports to improve financial visibility.
• Use financial data to identify opportunities for cost reduction and revenue improvement.

Financial Systems & Automation

• Maintain accurate financial data across accounting and financial systems.
• Work with Technology/Product teams to improve integration between payment systems and accounting systems.
• Support automation of:
• Bank reconciliation
• Payment reconciliation
• Treasury reporting
• Financial reporting
• Settlement accounting
• FX reporting

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field.
• Professional accounting qualification is required:
• ACA/ICAN
• ACCA
• CPA
• CIMA
• Minimum 3–7 years of progressive experience in Accounting, Finance, Financial Control or Treasury.
• Minimum 3–5 years' experience in a senior finance/controller or treasury position.
• Must have relevant experience in a FinTech, Banking, Payments, Remittance, Digital Banking, Financial Services or other regulated financial institution.
• Strong experience in cross-border payments and/or international financial transactions is highly preferred.
