    Tool Room Engineer

    Reports to: Tool Room Manager / Plant Head

    Location: Otta, Sango.  Nigeria

    Job Summary

    The Tool Room Engineer is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and improving moulds, dies, jigs, fixtures, and tooling used in plastic manufacturing processes. The role supports uninterrupted production by ensuring optimum mould and tool performance.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on injection moulds, blow moulds, and extrusion dies.
    • Diagnose and fix mould defects such as flash, short shots, burn marks, and warpage.
    • Repair components including ejector pins, cores, cavities, runners, gates, and cooling channels.
    • Carry out machining operations: milling, lathe, grinding, EDM, and wire-cut.
    • Support new tooling development and assist in mould trials and validation.
    • Provide immediate support to production during mould/tool issues.
    • Maintain documentation of mould history, PM schedules, and tool inventory.
    • Recommend improvements for tool performance, cooling efficiency, and mould life.
    • Ensure compliance with workshop safety procedures and tool handling standards.

    • Mould/tool breakdown frequency and downtime
    • Preventive maintenance adherence
    • Tool life and repair cost
    • Rejection rate due to mould issues
    • Response time to production breakdowns
    • Accuracy and quality of tool operations

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Tool & Die, or Production Engineering.
    • 3–7 years experience in tool room operations in plastic manufacturing.
    • Strong understanding of mould construction and engineering drawings.
    • Hands-on experience with CNC, EDM, VMC, lathe, and precision machining tools.
    • Knowledge of mould steels, heat treatment, and tolerancing.
