Technical Advisor- Infrastructure / Road Design at Julius Berger

Job Summary

• The job holder provides technical advice and support to a specific project or function and support the company’s research and development efforts.
• He/She will serve as a Senior Checking Engineer to ensure integrity of design in line with PrimeTech Nigeria´s QMS.

Responsibilities

• Ensures transfer of expert knowledge towards all less experienced staff
• Guides and develops staff in technical matters
• Organizes and supervises staff trainings
• Supports HOD in financial performance of the department
• Supports HOD in cost evaluation for projects
• Responsible for checking of the design (fulfils the role of  a Senior Checking Engineer to ensure integrity of design in line with PrimeTech Nigeria´s QMS)
• Supports and advises the HOD, Infrastructure in all technical matters
• Leads any value engineering processes
• Leads special tasks
• Liaises with PrimeTech Nigeria´s sister company Julius Berger International in Wiesbaden
• Understands scope of services for projects 
• Supports in securing timely delivery of project services
• Ensures that all applicable standards are being met
• Ensures full implementation and maintenance of all ISO 9001:2015 requirements
• Participates in client meetings as per requirement
• Liaises with client on technical matters

Requirements

• M.Sc. / M.Tech. degree in Civil Engineering
• Advantage would be minimum of 10 years experience and thereof minimum 5 years abroad/international, in related engineering discipline of road, infrastructure and storm water hydrology design.
• Is highly familiar with various design standards (as Nigerian/BS/AASHTO, German and other European and international industry standards and specifications.
• Has worked in an international, multidisciplinary design firm to guarantee respective knowledge transfer into PTN
• site/construction experience would be considered as an advantage
• English language required (fluent writing and speaking), German language would be considered as an important advantage

Technical Competencies Required

Software skills: 

• Common: MS office (Excel, World, Power Point), MS project, Google Earth 
• Specialized: CAD, especially AUTODESK applications such as ACAD, Civil3D, Infraworks, Global Mapper.
• Experience in ProVI would be an additional advantage
• Capable of independently designing urban and rural roads (e.g. township-, state- and federal roads)
• A very good understanding of geometrical design of road- and river bridges, i.e. incorporation of bridge structure into road design (e.g. longitudinal and vertical alignment, span length)
• An extensive experience in plot developments (e.g. estate roads, parking lots, drainage and utility design, retaining walls)
• An extensive experience in storm water drainage design as well as in hydrology calculation
• A very good understanding for quantity and cost estimation works for infrastructure works. Able to independently establish Bill of Quantity and quantity take off sheets.
• A good basic understanding for wastewater systems, water supply, firefighting systems, street lighting.
• Understanding of topographical survey data and plans, and how to convert them into respective terrain models
• Familiar with all common design standards and capable of implementing additional country/regional standards
• Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 requirements
• Knowledge in 3D modelling and visualization/animation is desirable
