Job Summary
The Station Manager is responsible for the overall management, profitability, and operational performance of the retail service station. The role oversees daily station operations, ensures the achievement of sales and financial targets, manages employees, maintains optimal inventory levels, enforces Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) standards, and ensures exceptional customer service. The Station Manager is accountable for ensuring the station operates efficiently, complies with company policies and regulatory requirements, and delivers sustainable business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Station Operations Management
- Manage the overall day-to-day operations of the station.
- Ensure uninterrupted availability of petroleum products and retail merchandise.
- Develop and implement operational plans to improve efficiency and profitability.
- Monitor station facilities, pumps, tanks, generators, and equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
- Coordinate maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
- Ensure compliance with company operational standards and regulatory requirements.
Sales and Business Performance
- Drive the achievement of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.
- Develop initiatives to increase fuel and non-fuel sales.
- Monitor daily sales performance and profitability.
- Identify business opportunities to improve station revenue.
- Ensure effective merchandising and product availability.
Financial and Cash Management
- Oversee daily cash collections, banking, and reconciliations.
- Ensure proper financial controls and adherence to cash handling procedures.
- Review and approve daily sales and reconciliation reports.
- Monitor operational expenses and implement cost-control measures.
- Investigate and resolve financial discrepancies.
Inventory Management
- Ensure accurate fuel stock monitoring and reconciliation.
- Oversee inventory management for lubricants, LPG, convenience store items, and other products.
- Approve stock requests and coordinate timely replenishment.
- Minimize stock losses, product wastage, and shrinkage.
- Investigate stock variances and implement corrective actions.
Leadership and People Management
- Lead, supervise, and motivate station employees to achieve operational excellence.
- Recruit, train, coach, and develop station personnel.
- Prepare duty rosters and ensure adequate staffing.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
- Enforce company policies, discipline, and performance standards.
- Foster teamwork, accountability, and a high-performance culture.
Customer Experience
- Ensure customers receive prompt, courteous, and professional service.
- Resolve customer complaints and service issues promptly.
- Build strong customer relationships to encourage repeat business.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming station environment.
Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE)
- Ensure full compliance with all HSSE policies, procedures, and statutory regulations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments.
- Ensure firefighting equipment and emergency systems are functional.
- Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
- Promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
Compliance and Administration
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and government requirements.
- Maintain accurate operational, financial, inventory, and personnel records.
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly management reports.
- Coordinate internal and external audits and implement audit recommendations.
Stakeholder Management
- Maintain effective communication with the Area Manager and Head Office.
- Liaise with suppliers, contractors, regulatory agencies, and other external stakeholders.
- Represent the station professionally in all business engagements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor\'s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Business Administration, Management, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of *1–3 yearsof experience in retail operations, oil and gas, FMCG, or a related industry, with at least *1-2 yearsin a managerial or supervisory role.
