    Solar Technician

    Job Description

    The Solar Technician is the owner of technical operations and issues at the regional level. The main responsibility is maintaining reliable technical operations at Hubs and Towers in the region to ensure Hub uptime. Solar Technician reports to the Regional Coordinator and Technical Manager to ensure Hub Uptime. The primary accountabilities of the position are:

    • Own and manage Energy uptime in the region to a minimum of 99.9% by ensuring all energy systems are performing as expected and all necessary interventions are planned.
    • Ensure Packs go through troubleshooting and repair to maintain 98% pack health (only 2% can be defective at a time)
    • Ensure Tower Energy systems meet the requirement of 99.95% uptime and average of under 5 hours of diesel generator runtime per day.

    ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Monitor Hub energy system performance in the region to prevent downtime (time in the danger zone)
    • Monitor tower systems to ensure uptime meets and exceeds the 99.95% uptime requirement.
    • Troubleshooting defective packs at the region to have no less than <2% of packs in a defective state in the region, and ensure data is collected and logged correctly.
    • Monitoring of Swap% and PV% at all Hubs in the region, ensuring Hubs with >80% are escalated.
    • Complete Hub commissioning, and testing, and provide sign-off for Hub go-live.
    • Set up Hub phones, and Hub controllers and maintain accurate records of Hub data in the dashboard.
    • Accurately file, respond to, update, and escalate technical issues in Gitlab
    • Remotely troubleshoot and resolve Hub performance issues
    • Travel to Hubs to resolve issues requiring in-person troubleshooting/repairs.
    • Perform routine Hub energy system maintenance
    • Ensure connectivity at Hubs
    • Monitor and review technical reports
    • Test, troubleshoot and repair defective products
    • Keep accurate records of Hub Equipment and product component inventory (including defects)
    • Communicate technical issues to the Regional Coordinator
    • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of the roles and technologies of Solar Technicians via the Jaza Tech Handbook.
    • Test new products and firmware as needed.

    Requirements

    • A minimum of OND qualification in Electrical or any related course/certification proven work experience in Renewable Energy Industry
    • Ability to troubleshooting and resolve technical issues.
    • Excellent computer knowledge with a comprehensive understanding of Excel, PowerPoint and Word or Google suites
    • Excellent people skills, with an ability to partner with a dynamic team
    • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to the mission of Jaza
    • Flexible and able to multi­task; can work within an ambiguous, fast moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding people
