Senior Software Engineer (RCL) at FairMoney

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our engineering team and build reliable, scalable systems that power our lending and credit products. You’ll work on backend services, distributed systems, and data-intensive applications, with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and scalability.

This role is ideal for an engineer who has strong backend experience and understands how to design systems that operate reliably at scale, particularly within lending, credit, fintech, or other high-volume financial environments.

Requirements

What You’ll Do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and distributed systems.
• Develop reliable APIs and services that support lending and credit-related products.
• Design, optimise, and maintain relational databases and data models.
• Identify and resolve performance, scalability, and reliability bottlenecks.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technical design discussions.
• Build systems with strong consideration for availability, fault tolerance, security, and data consistency.
• Work closely with Product, Data, Risk, and other Engineering teams to deliver impactful solutions.
• Review code, provide technical guidance, and contribute to engineering best practices.
• Investigate and resolve complex production issues.
• Improve system observability, monitoring, and overall operational reliability.
• Mentor other engineers and contribute to a strong engineering culture.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong backend development experience.
• Strong experience designing and building distributed systems and scalable backend applications.
• Experience working within lending, credit, fintech, payments, or a closely related financial domain.
• Strong understanding of relational database design, indexing, query optimisation, and performance tuning.
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and working with service-oriented or microservices architectures.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, system design, and data structures.
• Experience working with cloud infrastructure and modern development/deployment practices.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, and production software development.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced engineering environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience building or scaling credit decisioning, loan management, repayment, or risk-related systems.
• Experience with event-driven architectures, messaging systems, and asynchronous processing.
• Experience working with high-volume transactional systems.
• Experience with observability and performance monitoring tools.
• Experience mentoring engineers or providing technical leadership.
