Senior GCP Platform Engineer at Velorix Nigeria Ltd

About the Role

We're looking for a highly skilled GCP Platform Engineer to design, build, and maintain our rapidly scaling infrastructure on the Google Cloud Platform. In this role, you will be the backbone of our cloud operations, taking ownership of our CI/CD pipelines in GitLab and managing our environments through rigorous Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform. You won't just be maintaining systems; you'll be shaping our overall cloud architecture, driving automation initiatives, and establishing the security and reliability best practices that empower our engineering teams to ship code faster and more securely.

What You'll Do

• Cloud Architecture & Management: Design, implement, and maintain highly available, scalable, and secure infrastructure on GCP, leveraging services like GKE, Compute Engine, Cloud Run, and Cloud SQL.
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Develop, test, and manage complex infrastructure deployments using Terraform. Build reusable modules and manage state effectively across multiple environments.
• Pipeline Automation: Build, optimize, and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines in GitLab. Automate everything from code linting and security scanning to testing and multi-environment deployments.
• Advanced Networking & Security: Architect secure VPCs, manage IAM roles with the principle of least privilege, and configure hybrid connectivity, firewalls, and secure VPN routing.
• Scripting & Tooling: Write custom automation scripts and internal tooling using Python or Bash to streamline operational tasks that fall outside standard IaC deployments.
• Observability & Reliability: Implement comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and logging using tools like Google Cloud Operations suite (formerly Stackdriver), Prometheus, or Grafana to ensure system health and minimize downtime.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with software engineering, QA, and security teams to integrate GCP, GitLab, and Terraform workflows seamlessly. Act as a subject matter expert, conducting architecture reviews and mentoring peers on cloud best practices.

What You'll Bring

• GCP Mastery: Deep, hands-on expertise in core Google Cloud services, specifically Compute, GKE/Kubernetes, VPC networking, Cloud Storage, and IAM.
• IaC Expertise: Proven experience writing production-grade Terraform, including module creation and state management.
• CI/CD Proficiency: Strong experience with GitLab for source control and building complex, multi-stage automated pipelines.
• Networking Knowledge: Solid understanding of foundational networking concepts (DNS, TCP/IP, subnets, routing) and secure network configurations.
• Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python or Go for infrastructure scripting, API interactions, and automation.
• Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills in distributed systems and a deep understanding of how GCP, GitLab, and Terraform integrate in a high-stakes production environment.

Bonus Points (Nice-to-Haves)

• Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect or DevOps Engineer certification.
• Experience with FinOps and cloud cost-optimization strategies.
• Background in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.
