Senior Data Scientist at Carbon Nigeria

We are looking for an inquisitive, creative and driven Senior Data Scientist to join our team.  You'll be working directly with our Head of Data Science, enhancing the business data-driven decision making to optimise our global automated lending platform, conducting scientific research and building new models from the rich transaction data derived from the more than 3k loans we disburse daily to support the launch of non-lending products like savings, transfers and FX.

Extensive experience in ML/ AI and a background in a highly quantitative field (economics, statistics, actuarial science, engineering, computer science or equivalent) are a must. They should be able to understand and translate a business problem into a data problem, and to interpret and contextualize the data to extract valuable information for the business. They should have advanced analytical and problem solving skills. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, and ability to present technical results to non-technical audiences and to work in collaboration with other data scientists and end-user business units. They should be comfortable with delivering results in a very dynamic environment and comfortable dealing with ambiguity.

Role

• Identify analytical solutions to abstract business problems, ask the right questions and interpret the data to uncover solutions and opportunities for improvement;
• Extract, clean and validate sets of semi-structured and structured data from different sources;
• Develop, test, monitor, implement and deploy machine learning models to solve lending business problems such as credit approvals and fraud prevention, and new non-lending models such as CHURN, LTV, and propensity and marketing models to aid in launching or optimising products;
• Choose the appropriate techniques and algorithms to attack a business problem based on technical, statistical, analytical and business-minded approaches;
• Work close to other Data Scientists and management team to accomplish team and company goals;
• Design, implement and document methods, processes and algorithms;
• Perform advanced Feature Engineering tasks across a variety of data sources seeking for features economic sense and systematically explore data to elicit hidden patterns that can be used to improve business processes, algorithms or products;
• Turn the wealth of the extensive data Carbon has gathered over the years into a clear edge over newer entrants and incumbents;
• Contribute to the development of internal standards to guide data capture and validation, access, usage, masking, storage, archival and retention.
