Overall Function

• The Senior Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting strategic decision-making through high-quality financial reporting and robust internal controls.
• This is a hands-on role requiring strong General Ledger (GL) expertise, deep accounting knowledge, and proficiency with financial systems.
• Experience with Zoho Books is an added advantage.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and maintain General Ledger (GL) entries, ensuring accuracy and completeness
• Perform and review monthly GL reconciliations, ensuring timely resolution of discrepancies
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and adjustments
• Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS and Nigerian GAAP
• Ensure accurate accounting for receivables, payables, accruals, prepayments, and provisions
• Maintain the fixed asset register and support periodic asset verification exercises
• Ensure full compliance with statutory obligations including VAT, PAYE, WHT, pension, and liaise with relevant regulatory authorities
• Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor queries
• Enforce and continuously improve internal controls, policies, and procedures
• Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
• Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure financial operations align with business objectives.

Qualification and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
• ICAN or ACCA certification (mandatory)
• Minimum of 7–10 years of relevant accounting experience, with at least 5 years of hands-on General Ledger (GL) experience
• Minimum 3+ years in a senior or supervisory accounting role
• Strong working knowledge of Nigerian tax laws, statutory reporting requirements, and IFRS
• Experience working with accounting systems or ERPs; Zoho Books experience is a plus
• Experience in EdTech, SaaS, or technology-driven organizations is an advantage.
• Strong expertise in General Ledger management and financial reporting
• Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
• High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability
• Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
