Senior Accountant at Apple and Pears Limited

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly competent Senior Accountant to oversee and manage all financial and accounting operations of our construction company. The ideal candidate must have a minimum of 10 years’ hands-on accounting experience, strong knowledge of construction accounting, and the ability to provide accurate financial reporting and strategic financial support to management. This role requires professionalism, integrity, and the capacity to work closely with the Director.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations
• Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports
• Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning for construction projects
• Monitor project costs, job costing, and profitability analysis
• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements including tax filings (VAT, WHT, PAYE, CIT) and regulatory standards
• Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, banks, and regulatory bodies
• Implement and maintain effective internal control systems and financial procedures
• Supervise junior accounting staff and review their work for accuracy
• Provide financial advice and insights to the Director to support business decisions
• Ensure timely reconciliation of accounts and resolution of discrepancies
• Maintain proper documentation and accounting records in line with best practices

Qualifications & Requirements

• Minimum of 10 years’ progressive experience in accounting, preferably within the construction industry
• ICAN Chartered Accountant (ACA) – mandatory
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
• Strong knowledge of Nigerian tax laws and financial regulations
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills
• High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
• Experience reporting directly to senior management or company directors is an added advantage
