Seed Production Research Associate at Seed Co Nigeria Limited

Job Summary

• The Seed Production Research Associate supports the design, implementation, and monitoring of seed production trials and research activities aimed at improving seed yield, quality, and production efficiency.
• The role involves coordinating field trials, supporting hybrid seed production activities, collecting agronomic data, and ensuring adherence to seed production protocols and research standards.

Key Responsibilities
Research Trial Implementation:

• Establish and manage agronomic and seed production research trials in accordance with experimental design protocols.
• Support hybrid seed production research focused on improving pollination efficiency, yield performance, and production stability.
• Ensure proper field layout, planting accuracy, and adherence to research protocols.

Seed Production Support:

• Assist in managing hybrid seed production plots, including monitoring critical operations such as:
• Detasseling
• Slit and nick synchronization
• Pollination management
• Work closely with field teams and growers to ensure compliance with seed production standards.

Data Collection & Analysis:

• Collect accurate agronomic and operational data including:
• Germination performance
• Plant growth parameters
• Yield data
• Pollination success
• Maintain clean and organized data records for analysis and reporting.
• Support preliminary data analysis and reporting of research findings.

Production Agronomy & Grower Support:

• Provide technical agronomic support to contract growers and field teams on Agronomy and Good Agricultural Practices.
• Monitor field performance and identify agronomic constraints affecting productivity.
• Support training and capacity building for field officers and growers.

Seed Quality & Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with seed production protocols and quality standards across research and production plots.
• Support quality assurance checks for: Genetic purity, Field isolation requirements and Harvest and seed handling procedures.

Reporting & Knowledge Generation:

• Generate research reports summarizing trial performance, agronomic observations, and yield outcomes.
• Document and recommend best practices for hybrid seed production systems.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing production efficiency and seed quality

Requirements
Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Plant Science, Plant Breeding, Agricultural Science.
• Master’s Degree is an advantage.

Experience:

• 2 - 4 years experience in Field research, Seed production, Agronomy trials.
