    Regulatory Manager

    About the job

    • The Regulatory Manager is responsible for ensuring that Johnvents Group remains fully compliant with the evolving regulatory landscape of the Nigerian agribusiness and commodities sector. As we expand our footprint across farming, processing, and commodities trading, this role acts as the primary interface between the company and regulatory bodies (e.g., SEC, CBN, NAFDAC, Export Promotion Council). The objective is to proactively manage risk, secure necessary licenses, and ensure all group operations adhere to national and international standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    Regulatory Liaison & Engagement

    • Primary Point of Contact: Lead all formal communication and engagements with key regulatory agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), NAFDAC, and relevant Federal Ministries.
    • License & Permit Management: Manage the end-to-end process of securing, renewing, and maintaining all operational licenses, export permits, and certifications required for agribusiness and commodity trading.
    • Supervisory Reviews: Lead responses to regulatory inquiries, inspections, and thematic assessments, ensuring that all submissions are accurate and timely.

    Compliance Framework & Monitoring

    • Horizon Scanning: Proactively monitor changes in agricultural, financial, and trade regulations; perform impact assessments and advise leadership on required adjustments to business operations.
    • Policy Oversight: Develop and implement internal compliance policies that align with group-wide standards and regulatory best practices.
    • Regulatory Reporting: Own the preparation and filing of all periodic regulatory returns, ensuring zero-defect submissions.

    Strategic Governance

    • Board Support: Prepare and present regulatory compliance reports to the Board and Executive Management, highlighting risks, control effectiveness, and emerging trends.
    • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with the Operations, Finance, and Supply Chain teams to ensure that local farm and processing operations meet all statutory health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards.
    • Audit Support: Act as the internal auditor for regulatory matters, conducting periodic gap analyses to ensure the group is "audit-ready" at all times.

    Requirements

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree: Law, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
    • Professional Qualification: Relevant certification in Compliance (e.g., CAMS) or a Call to the Nigerian Bar (LLB/BL) is highly preferred.
    • Experience: 5–8 years in regulatory compliance, corporate legal, or government relations, ideally within the Agribusiness, FMCG, or Financial Services sectors.

    Technical Skills

    • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of the Nigerian Commodities Exchange regulatory framework, import/export trade laws, and agricultural sector guidelines.
    • Legal Research: Ability to interpret complex legislation and convert it into operational instructions.
    • Stakeholder Management: Exceptional negotiation and lobbying skills to maintain healthy relationships with regulators.

    Personal Attributes

    • Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to documentation and filing.
    • High Integrity: Unwavering ethical standards.
    • Communication: Ability to communicate technical regulatory requirements to non-technical operational teams.
