    Regional English Connects Lead, SSA

    The Role

    • The purpose of this role is to lead the English Connects programme and drive innovation in online teacher development across Sub-Saharan Africa.
    • This strategic role involves overseeing the design and delivery of high-quality digital capacity-building offers for teachers and educators, while advising on best practices in EdTech and ensuring alignment with British Council standards.
    • As a key member of the global English Connects team, you’ll contribute to shaping strategy, sharing insights, and supporting impactful programming across regions.

    Accountabilities:

    • The role is accountable for leading the English Connects programme and online teacher development across Sub-Saharan Africa, ensuring the design and delivery of high-quality, innovative digital capacity-building initiatives aligned with British Council standards.
    • It involves strategic programme planning, budget management, and quality assurance, as well as advising on digital education practices in collaboration with global teams.
    • The postholder contributes sector expertise, drives product and service innovation, and maintains strong stakeholder engagement.
    • Additionally, they provide leadership to a regional team, ensuring alignment with organisational strategy and effective performance management.

    Requirements of the role

    • English language teaching qualification
    • Experience of managing teacher development projects, both face-to-face and online
    • Experience of overseeing digital communities of practice or learning networks
    • Understanding of ELT in education policy, current trends and research internationally – particularly digitally
    • Experience of grant or contract management.
