Protection, Control and Metering (PC&M) Engineer at Benin Electricity Distribution Plc. (BEDC)

Job Description

• Supervise major electrical installations.
• Preventive maintenance on power transformers below 1,000kVA (1MVA).
• Serves as the Supervisory Engineer on major electrical installations at the Injection Substations.
• Performs condition monitoring for maintenance or repairs.
• Analyses reports, maps, and design projects.
• Estimates costs and determines the feasibility of the project based on the analysis of collected data.
• Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
• Carry out preventive maintenance in the various substations.
• Periodic testing of power transformers, DTRs, VTs, CTs and other electrical facilities (overhead lines, underground cables etc.).
• Setting up of battery bank and connection of the tripping unit or battery chargers.
• Interpretation of circuit diagrams.
• Ensures strict compliance with the substation maintenance schedule Reviews Metering and Relaying Diagrams and determines the required protection and protective relays.
• Installs, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs relay and control equipment in electrical sub-stations e.g. protective relays, instrument transformers, meters, recording instruments, controls (breakers, regulators, capacitors, etc.)
• Develop a Protection and Control application document to define design scopes, philosophies, methodologies and criteria for injection and distribution substations Perform Protection and Control system studies/fault level calculations/relay coordination / generate/implement relay settings to be integrated and configured into future IEDs.
• Develop Protection and Control layout, single line diagram, AC/DC schematics, control panel layout and wiring diagram, station service AC/DC distribution diagram, cable schedule, etc.
• Carry out/review/analyse technical studies and project scopes; develop and review technical specifications, drawings and standards of equipment/ projects.
• DC load calculation and designing the battery and battery charger specifications for injection sub-stations
• Provide construction support, including resolving site queries, attending site meetings and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects
• Maintain records of relay settings, test results for all power distribution equipment, especially transformers at injection and distribution sub-stations
• Assist the procurement department for the purchase of materials related to protection and controls by providing specifications and comments.
• Perform transformer oil analysis for physical, electrical and chemical parameters and assist the O&M department to take corrective action for deviations.
• Maintenance of such records for review.
• Periodic calibration of testing equipment Mentor and guide Junior/Intermediate engineers in the group

Requirements

• Candidates should possess a Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or any related field.
• Highly goal-oriented and possess excellent interpersonal & communication skills.

• A minimum of 2-5 years of work experience in a similar role Professional certification will be an added advantage.
