    Partnerships Manager, West Africa

    PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

    • World Service Partnerships is responsible for securing and developing media partnerships that help deliver a substantial proportion of BBC News’s reach globally. As a key market facing team, we play an important role in providing insights into the latest media market developments and distribution opportunities for BBC World Service English and Language Services.

    WHY JOIN THE TEAM

    • As the Partnerships Manager for Anglophone West Africa, you will be responsible for leading BBC World Service’s partnership activity in Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia, and other countries as required.

    Your Key Responsibilities And Impact

    • Develop and deliver a coherent partnerships strategy for exploiting market opportunities, including the identification of appropriate targets to meet the organisations growth plans.
    • Understand and disseminate key market changes, highlighting the activities of competitors to relevant staff in the region.
    • Work with BBC Lawyers to lead contract negotiations, coupled with implementing a systematic pricing policy and to maintain appropriate information systems reporting on performance targets.
    • Work effectively with World Service English and Language Services, Marketing, Strategic Planning and Delivery, Business Operations, Audience Insights & Distribution to ensure that broadcast and digital partners receive the best possible service.
    • You are expected to travel extensively across the region and will be required to recruit and manage staff as part of your responsibilities.

    Essential Criteria

    YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

    • A strong understanding of the West African media landscape, including the regulatory environment and distribution systems, and a clear sense of how these are likely to develop, to help maximise weekly audience reach.
    • Demonstrable experience in a partnerships environment alongside strong commercial judgement and the ability to achieve measurable outcomes.
    • Substantial experience in sales techniques including negotiating, influencing and networking skills.
    • Knowledge of financial management and the ability to create and implement partnership plans.
    • Fluent in English, with fluency in Pidgin, Yoruba, Igbo, or Hausa considered an added advantage.
